What service items for 86 turbo?

Hi all, my car passed its mot this week with just a couple of advisories - brake pipe corosion, front pads low, emissions on the high side. The MOT chap suggested I just grease the pipes up, so it may be fine to leave this till the sun arrives.
I've decided to attempt the service myself, I 'may' have the cambelt done elsewhere depending how well the rest of it goes [:D]. So a list -

Oil filter
Engine oil
plugs
Air filter
Fuel filter
Brake fluid
Front brake pads
Gearbox oil
Timing belt
Balance shaft belt
Rotor arm

Anything I've missed?
I don't mind going to town on its first service in my ownership, so should I also swap the leads and dizzy cap? Can Bert supply a decent set or is there perhaps 'better' option available elsewhere?

Thanks in advance

You've almost got it - the only other item i'd add to that list if you are also doing your timing belt is a balance shaft belt. Failure of this belt often causes failure of the timing belt so it is not worth NOT doing.

I'd add rotor arm - why not if you're doing cap & leads? At least with Bert you know you are getting the right product backed up by the right knowledge.

If you're doing the belts check the oil seals, rollers etc. It's frustrating to have to do it all again. I know! [] Also, water pump is worth considering if it's not been changed in over 20 years.

See new sticky above about tensioner! [:)]

A different approach ... instead of wading on in and changing everything there, how about a full and comprehensive inspection and only changing things that need changing? 'Service Items' are oil, filters, plugs, and so on, so change these, but spend your time looking at every aspect of the car in detail, particularly if it is the first time you are doing this. For instance, there is no point in changing the windscreen wipers if they are only 6 months old ...

Someone on here (Christopher Ralph, I think) very kindly eMailed me a list of items to check at a full service, which I can happily eMail to you (or link on here if someone can host it for me.) But, broadly, take all the wheels off in turn, closely examine steering, suspension, brake and electrical items in each wheel well, check for leaks, check for proper functioning
of all instrumentation, and so on, and repair/replace/correct as necessary.

Oli.

Cheers guys.
It does make sense Oli, perhaps I was going a bit overboard with the Dizzy cap and leads. They aren't that cheap either I believe? But the other items I've mentioned are pretty standard items. The timing belt is due for renewal, fortunately the waterpump was done at the last change (but theres no guarantees I know).
It would be handy if you could somehow upload the check list for all to see. Perhaps it could be made a sticky?

Btw, anyone know if PCGB get discount at Berts? (worth a shot) [:D]

yes you do get a discount with bert and very generous too, suggest you call or email bert with what u want, mentioning you are pcgb member and what discount he can give.

He comes back more or less straight away with a price and is much less than a dealer and his normal price, sometime around 15%!

if you can send me that list aswell if you get it email address: danharris1976@tiscali.co.uk

cheers

Dan
