What Shocks???

Hi

I'm looking to upgrade/replace my existing shock absorbers.
Reading through several hundred diff. post on various forums hasn't helped my make a decision so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm running standard shocks and progressive H&R springs at the min. I'm looking for a decent upgrade for the car, which is used on track 4/5 times a year with a bit of road use (4-5000 miles) in between.

I'm not looking to go for a full overcoil setup as this would have a serious effect on funds, but I am looking for something to help the car stabilse a bit more on track and make the driving experience firmer.

Any ideas that won't break the bank????

Thanks

Rob

A popular choice is the Bilstein Sport/HD dampers - about £800 from Type911 plus say £500 fitting and alignment. I've got these in conjunction with H+R springs and they work pretty well - noticably more suspension control and less roll on track, but not too hard on road.

H&R springs and coil would be the a good choice - but note as a C4 you need the C4 version - takes the heavier front weight. You may also benfit from a lowered rude height/rake, and also larger anti-roll at the back. It depends on budget - but a coil over set-up is probably the only think that you would feel a difference with. You could look at RuF also. Key to this is the state and match of the shocks you already have.

I have KW variant 3 on my 944 and like everyone else who has the same setup I absolutely love them. There would be some on my 964 also had my BMW not decided it wanted a set of diesel injectors (6 of them at £220 each) about the time I was ready order them.

The KWs are more expensive than £800 for shocks recommended above (about £1,400 delivered), but I'd be very surprised if they aren't several orders of magnitude better in performance. They are also height, bump and rebound adjustable and they have a high speed bypass valve than one 944 forum regular was gobsmacked by when I went kerb-hopping at Silverstone when he was a passenger. Of course they are a matched coilover set (so you could sell on the current springs?) They are also stainless and polyeurethane so they won't corrode up.
