What should correct oil level be on display?

Hi
Just had the major service, noticed the oil level is showing one bar above the minimum arrow level - is this correct, I have been charged for 8 units of oil on the service invoice? I thought it would have been at least in the middle or towards the top?
Thanks

Think it should be one bar from the top

.... but then, isn't yours the one with the leaky rear main seal - it probably all drained out on your trip back from the service.

...

Only kidding ;-)

There are 2 prerequisites for an accurate measurement:

1) the car must be on a level surface - even slightly off will alter the reading significantly.
2) it must have time to completely drain the oil back down - I allow an hour standing time.

It should have all the bars lit if the oil is at the correct level given the two conditions above are met.

The book says 8.25 litres for an oil and filter change, but I always seem to need 8.75 to get it to the top mark. Each mark on the gauge is 0.25 litres, by the way.

...and No.3 Make sure that the car is up to working temperature before you do the measurement. If you fill it when the engine is cold the oil can effectively then be over-full when the engine has warmed up and the oil has expanded. Sound s like they've just been a bit tight with the oil to me though!
