What should this hose connect to?

I have been cleaning out the drain holes and replacing the pollen filter on my 2001 Boxster S (986). Coming out from the offside (drivers side in the UK) front wheel arch and under the bonnet is a clear plastic hose that is currently not connected at the other end (see attached image).

Can anyone confirm what part this is? Should this be connected somewhere? The end is stretched and looks like it has been pushed onto something previously but I could not find anything obvious to push it back onto.

Thanks,
William

Here is an image showing where the clear pipe exits a grommet on the wheel arch.

My Cayman has a non-Porsche battery so I wasn’t surprised recently, when connecting my battery conditioner, to find the vent tube unconnected like yours. I can see in the photograph you posted that your battery has a small hole in the side just under the Halfords label, mine battery has a similar hole so I pushed the tube in there just to keep things tidy.

I think so too William. You can see the vent hole at the top left corner of the battery (by the Halfords sticker) into which a right-angled connector is usually fitted to enable pipe connection.

now you have got that sorted ,think a good clean is now in order :ROFLMAO:

It definitely needed a good clean and, with the nothing better to do at the moment, there were no excuses.

The pollen filter was full of leaf litter. Once removed, I could see that the filter was worn and the housing was torn.

Although still functional, I ordered a replacement housing (genuine part from Design 911) and fitted that yesterday.

I cleaned and waxed all the accessible metal work. I also replaced rubber thread/nuts and screws that hold the covers down as they no longer worked (just spun in situ making it very hard to remove the covers).

The plastic cap on the strut mount was missing, so I have ordered one of those too.

Overall, it is a big improvement on before. Once the cap and the vent elbow arrive, that will be everything ticked off my snag list for the under the bonnet area.
