What to Buy Continued.....

I have moved this from the General discussion Area as I have decided on a Boxster now instead of a 944/968. There seems to be many 2.5's in my price range, a few 2.7's and the odd 3.2. I expect it will be a 2.5 or 2.7 I will go for. Is there much difference between the performance on these cars? Any advice on what to look out for will also be appreciated as will probably be buying from non Porsche Dealer or Private Sale.

Many Thanks

Phil

If you can stretch to a 3.2 it will be well worth it, lots more goodies as standard, more power, faster etc. Although I loved my 2.5 my main complaint with it was that I found it a bit slow at the time (4 years ago) and now it will seem even slower in comparison to other cars on the market.

I just had a drive of a 3.4 S model and was very impressed. Sufficiently so to change my order for a facelift Boxster to the S model.
Several posters have advised that the S model suits them better and I have to agree. The mid-range punch and sound over 4k is superb. What a great engine and fuel consumption was the same for me as the 2.7. They say the new DFi engine is even better.

I don't think a 3.4 is going to fall in his price range. [&:]

John,
Yes, sorry my post is off subject I just wanted to mention that the S performs a lot stromger than the non-S whether it be 3.2 or 3.4.

Phil, I started a thread similar to this, 'is high mileage a problem' probably worth a read. I started of looking at 2.5s and the odd 2.7 and saw a couple of real dogs in my budget range, but persevered and found 'the car for us' just today! Our budget was £6500 whilst there aren't that many around for the money we ended up with a 3.2 s on a V plate with full history etc etc, my impression is that the prices are very unstable and a lot of over priced cars aren't selling so may well come down soon

keep looking!

Cheers Nicholas

Had a look at a 2.5 over the festive period but I reckon if I hang on then the right 2.7 or even a 3.2 will come my way. As long as the history is Ok I am not overly bothered about mileage either as I will only be covering about 5-7000 a year. Many other Porsche models go well beyond 100,000 as long as well maintained, so I assume the Boxster should do so as well. Will keep you posted.

Many Thanks.

Phil
