Well here we go. I have a 2000( W) reg 2.7 Boxster which has done 137000 miles. It passed it's M.O.T. with no issues and drives brilliantly but needs a respray, new hood and possibly a recon engine. My dilemma is do I get all the repairs done or get rid and get another?

i'd be inclined to sell it, describing it fairly, and put the money you would have spent towards a newer better car

Respray, new hood and a recon engine would cost way more than a new car!

Why don't you just drive it in to the ground without worrying about the paint or the scruffy hood, and enjoy every mile until the engine gives way? It's probably worth only 4K, which is stupid money to sell it for if it has a fresh ticket and drives brilliantly!

For what it will fetch I would run it and maintain myself. If you buy a newer one you will get more protective towards it and probably not use it as intended.

Whilst you could live with scruffy paintwork (and the quality of paint applied to Boxsters at Zuffenhausen in the early 2000s was truly appalling) if the engine's properly knackered then, as Paul has said, it's just not financially viable to replace the engine with a car of that age and mileage. Unless of course you are happy to do it yourself as a project or plan to do something indecent to it like fitting a twin turbo 996 engine but then you're spending serious money to do so. My view is the same as Paul's, enjoy it until the engine goes pop then consider breaking it as it'll be worth more stripped and sold as parts than sold as a non-runner.
