Hi Guys,

I know this has been covered in many threads, but i would really like your opinions on buying a used Boxster. I have a budget of about £10-£12k and would really like a 3.2 S, not sure what gearbox to go for, so all views welcomed on that one to.

I have seen quite a few in that price range, I believe it they have dropped quite dramaticly in recent months.....

Fire away!!!

count me in also I am interested in learning about Boxsters but 2.5 or 2.7 ones.

Is there a web site with any details to read up about?

The topic is covered almost weekly on this forum in one form or another - using the seach facility at the top of the page and using keyword 'buy' and Boxster forum only gave 114 hits in the last 6 months. A lot of basic stuff is covered in those posts, spec, 2.5 vs, 2.7 vs S, pre/post facelift., issues/problems.

The magazine 911&Porsche world and GT Porsche have published numerous buying articles over the last few years - they also cover everything you need to consider (bodywork, tyres, wheel, engines, gearboxes, roof etc etc). Back issues are available at reasonable cost - www.chpltd.com for 911&PW magazine.

Peter Morgan published an excellent buyers guide for the Boxster - this is available via amazon or other book sellers - its a very good read indeed.

Yes after I posted that I noted anumber of other web sites had some great info. Just this site was more about OPC's and Boxsters than hands on info.

Yes I think I will be owning a 2.5 98/99 boxster by next year, so I will be looking to see what I can find and more important what I can learn and pass on.

Also have a nice lead on a slightly damaged one London way..

just do your research - there was an issue with late 98/99 boxsters and cracked/slipped cylinder sleeves....some more info (and a piccy) here:

now that was an interesting read that. So the sleeves are what have been used and they have been pressed into a heated case. Hmm interesting. This then can be remade. I know Auto farm do some thing but I am sure in time as there is the demand that some one smaller will start to do these. I am shocked that Porsche have not done anything about this. From what I have seen it looks like the classic sit back and do well not alot.

So this really could affect the values later on, cost to repair the cars when engines need a rebuild could just write them off. So in time will we see Boxster values much like 924's You want to own one but they just don't make any cost sence?
