What tyre size?

First up, apologies if this sort of question has been posted before but I am after some tyre advice...

I need new tyres on the front of my 1986 Lux (17 inch Cup 2 wheels) - the tyres currently on there are 225/45, however a friend of a friend in the industry reckons I should go for the 205/50.

Any thoughts/previous experiences would be much appreciated.

PS the rears will be changed as well as soon as pay day comes around again.
 
Really depends on the width of the front wheels I have cup 1s on my car with 225/45/17 fitted I think the front rims are 7.5", I think 205 would be too small for the rim width but it depends what width yours are.
 
I had 205's up front and 255's at the back on my old turbo and that was fine for street driving, and I found the car to have very good balance with those sizes. Understeer was not a problem unless I provoked it.
