What tyres will my car arrive with?

Just wondered if all new Porsche's tend to be delivered with the same brand of tyres (Pirelli P-Zero ??), or whether if you ask early enough, there is a choice?

If the latter, what would people recommend ?

Cheers

Unless something has changed recently (very unlikely), you cannot specify the tyres.
I wanted to, as have others, but you are not allowed to.
It is pot luck.
I reckon it is crazy, since you can specify floor lighting, leather sun visors, lighted door bins, what colour the seat back is, but not the most important thing, the tyres.
Anyway, you'll get what you're given and what they have in stock on the day they build your car. Whichever is better, will be a consideration once you've worn the first set out.

On all cars up until the end of the 993 in 1997 you used to be able to specify the tire make as an option and the option (listed as fitted with tire brand x) would appear as an option code in the sticker under the bonnet with all the other options.

Shame if this is no longer available because tires are one of the things people seem to care about.

Ian.

Think the only N rated ones for the 997 at the moment are Michelin Pilot Sport and Conit Sport Contact2s

I'd prefer the Mich by choice, but then there are wear issues with the Michelin compound which i'm sre you'd find on a search in the 997 section

As Stuart said, you've no longer a choice of brand for the tyres - which I agree is crazy ! You can even choose tyre-brand on a Ford Transit, so why not a Porsche...? !

Anyway, the 997 in 19" can be supplied with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 XL, or Pirelli P-Zero, or Continental Sport Contact 2, and Bridgestone RE050's (I think it's this one) have been appearing on many C4S's at the moment...

Any idea from the register details of what percentage have been supplied with what tyres. I don't remember giving this information, but my car was supplied with Pirellis in April 05

Hi
I was given a choice by my OPC back in 2001 when I bought a 986S and I opted for Michelins as they provide slightly better protection to the wheels from kerbing (a real bugbear here on Guernsey), but this process was not repeated with my 987S, which came with (thankfully) Michelins.

My 997S also has michelins and although there is a bit of 'shoulder scrub' on them they do seem to be helping protect the wheel rims.

It does seem a tad disappointing that on a 70k car you can't choose which tyres you'd like, and even more annoying (IMHO) there isn't even the choice of a space-saver spare. I don't have much faith (although it seemed to work for Michael thankfully) in a can of industrial strength hair gel, especially if the puncture is more of a gash rather than a neat hole![&:]

This came from my OPC today on the subject.

"The tyres which come through are from several manufacturers and in my
experience have never managed to get the Factory to accommodate
preferences. However in the past have carried out swops on site by using
an accommodating tyre supplier and the customer paying the labour
charge.
What would be your tyre preference?"

So, here is the answer to the query.

Any more views on the question the OPC has posed me?

Sounds like your OPC are being particularly helpful - To be clear, is it the OPC indicating that the change will happen at the factory, or are the OPC offering to make the change at the dealership.
Depending on the above, I might send my OPC an e-mail indicating that I've heard that other dealerships are offering this type of service.......

Which dealership was this?

I would guess that fitting cost would be around £10 a tyre??

From the posts on here I've read, it would appear that Pirelli's are the tyre of choice from a noise perspective (compared to the Michelins). Tyre wear may be greater though. I've got Contis on my M3 which apear fine to me, but not highly regarded by other owners (for M3s at least).

Anyone else like to recommend a tyre choice?

Cheers

Sidicks

Just had a further thought - it may be difficult for my dealer to swap tyres for me, unless they have another 4S at the dealership at that time, as I believe that the tyres on the 4S are bigger.......

Simon, my OPC is Swindon. I have just sent them an email to double-check, but it looks as if the change is made at the OPC. This appears not to be reliant on another C4S being there, as they use a local company (who presumably sell the factory fitted tyres on) to do the work- again, I have asked the OPC to confirm, so I will let you know.

Thanks - I look forward to hearing more once you've confirmed with your OPC [;)]

Thanks
