What wax

Just wondering what wax people use.
I use my car all year round but obviously less in the winter, particularly as I live in a very rural area.
I usually give the car a good clean and wax this time of year, and I find I'm very low on supplies. Have used various ones over the last 30 years, last being P21s.
Interested to hear any recommendations from those in the know.
regards Graham

I've been using R222 formerly P21 but it's been unavailable for a while so I've ordered Chemical Guys - Pete's 53 which I believe has 53% Carnauba.
Smells very similar to Autoglym but is a paste like R222 so I'm expecting it to wax on/wax off just as easily.....

It is a minefield out there, so much choice!!

I have used Collinite 476 for winter use but may try their 915 Elegance next time

Have ordered some R222, thanks Kaspper.
Must admit...underwhelmed by the replies..assume most of your cars don't need waxing as not used or get in a valeter

I use mine daily, but only wash it when it gets embarrassingly dirty or I want to show it off. Last wash was about 2 months ago! And then only a quick spray with water as it was filthy! ??

Hello Graham, my impression was that you were looking for the detailers to respond (your "those in the know" comment). Apologies for leaving you hanging. I know it's late now, but for what it's worth, and for others info / comment, I like using Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite pre-wax cleanser (glaze/polish) and topped with Dodo Juice Hard Candy wax. Not sure why I made this choice after all those years ago but will be replacing my near empty pre-wax again this year. The product does cover well and economically. I use this combination at the start of the season and it will maintain its shine for months when washing the car with a mild detergent (currently finishing up Johnson's baby bath!). Don't forget if using a chamois to use a synthetic chamois as a real chamois leather will strip off your polishing handiwork.

Hi Graham,
I tend to use Swissvax. My favourite is Best of Show. It costs and arm and a leg but the shine is fantastic - smells lovely too!

Hi Graham,
I never pay for someone to clean my cars.....
Not even a run-around Astra that's 17 years old...... but it doesn't get a polish anymore, just a shampoo/wax now.....

I bought a QQ recently & even that got a TLC detail, clay bar, polish, wax & leather treatment as it was rather poorly presented from Nissan.....
I treat the leather in my 4S probably twice a year with Gliptone Liquid Leather, great stuff!

Ah, the smell of Gliptone's is glorious! I use the conditioner on the seats every few months. Not because they need it necessarily, but because I like filling the car with the smell!

Just bought the Gliptone cleaner and the conditioner. Looking forward to using it. Previously used Autoglym, it left a shine and I'm told the Gliptone is a more natural finish. Seems it leaves a nice smell too!

Just been eve's dropping, thanks for the tips guy's ordered some R222 and the Gliptone leather stuff.

I suspect that the lack of replies is that once you start talking about it, it's like opening a can of worms. It's also discussed to the nth degree at places like http://www.detailingworld.co.uk

Cheers,

Wax/polish are very subjective. I remember when my father polished his vehicles he always used Turtle (hard) Wax. It was a devil to buff off.
I use Auto Glym Super Resin Polish and in between its use I use a waterless polish after nearly every weekly wash. I purchased a machine to polish/buff the car but it frightens the hell out of me when I use it, lacking confidence. So I think I shall sell that and revert to polishing by hand.
So what is good polish/wax? Everyone will have their favorite product which does not mean what you use is bad. Personally I would say that most on the market are good and remember whatever you use is better than none. Do you need to take out a second mortgage to purchase a polish/wax for your car?

Autoglym high definiton wax :p
Ditto, clay barring beforehand.

Also found Maguiars NXT Tech Wax 2 excellent for a 'fast' polish/wax. Apparently its not so good for darker colours according to various reviews.

Don't forget, there is a difference between 'polish' and 'wax'

According to my local paint guy, polish is normally slightly abrasive and takes a miniscule layer off the paint/laquer whereas Wax doesn't, it just adds a protective (and shiny) layer.
Don't slay me if you think I am incorrect!!

Definitely a subjective subject.

I love my Swissol Zuffenhausen, yes it predates the name change to Swissvax.

Also impressed with dodo juice, which I have used on my dailies.

Less as impressed with these ceramic processes, but I love doing it myself and the smell and touch of wax is unbeatable.
