what would u consider high mileage?

Been looking around at cars and just wondered what you would all consider to be high mileage on a s2 or turbo i.e. 190000 a tad hiigh? This is assuming it has been services had belts changed new clutch etc.

The answer to that would be another question- is there anyone with an S2 or Turbo with FSH (regular oil changes) who's engine is worn out from the sheer milage (bearings, worn bores etc) rather than some catastrophic failure?
 
I would not worry about the mileage just the overall condition of the car and a good service history. It is not just the engine the gets use, the gearbox, torque tube, bearings and linkages are all stress points, the way it is looked after matters most. My current 44S2 has about 160k on the clock and feels tighter and more gutsy than ones I have had that have only done 80k. I would not worry about a 190k as long as it has been well looked after.
 
I would say the average yearly mileage for a car that you can use day in and day out would 10k p.a. The earliest S2s are 1989, so after 19 years of use I would say an average mileage is 190k [;)] We had a poll on here a few years ago and I think that most cars were in the 100k - 150k bracket, I'll try and find a link to it.

My own S2 now has 180k miles on it, was dyno'd at 211bhp before christmas and was only 2% down on a compression test last summer so I think it's fair to say that with regular servicing these engines can go on for years (kiss of death now [8|]). Any S2 with this sort of mileage will not be on it's original shocks, water pump, cam chain, brake callipers etc and will have had most consumables replaced many, many times in it's life
 
171K miles and AFAIK the cylinder head has never been off but there is no smoke on over run so the valve guides are still good. Jon M drove my car about 2k or 3k miles ago and verified this fact so don't believe the advice that higher mileage cars must have a top end rebuild.

A little oil usage doesn't seem to be a problem either. Mine started burning about 1 litre every 12k miles about 50K miles ago. Not sure if it has got worse or not recently.

I would be more worried about rust then mileage.
 
Mileage is irrelevant. It is how the car has been driven. Once warmed up there is virtually no engine wear at all as all the moving parts are well lubricated and wear basically irradicated. All the wear and tear on the engine is done in the first 10mins of the journey as the engine and oil comes upto temp. An engine with 200k motorway miles on it will be in much better condition than a car that has clocked up 80k's worth of short journeys.

Do the 944 mileage clock's get to 100000 and start again?, that could make life interesting when trying to verfy milage :(

Nah it's probably 151k so it's actually just run in [:D]
