What would you buy instead of a Carrera GT

Assuming list is approx £350,000 from memory - I could never justify spending that much on a totally impractical & ever so ugly car..

I'd spend my £350k as follows:

996 GT3 RS @ £80k
Pre War 3 1/2litre Bentley @ £120k
993 RS Clubsport LHD @ £60k
964 RS Clubsport LHD @ £35k
968 CS RHD @ £15k
Land Rover Series 1 @ £9k
AMG E55 Estate @ £30k (couple of years old)

I think I'd personally get a lot more fun out of this mix than I would from a Carrera GT..

Much as I admire the engineering that has gone into the Carrera GT (and ditto for Paganis, Enzo's, Koeniggseggy's and the like), I'm sorry to say I just no longer see the point. [:(] Autocar commented that the car was no good below 60 mph, but once over that hurdle, it was fabulous all the way up to maximum speed.

DUH ... excuse me, but do these people drive on the same camera infested roads as the rest of we mortals? or do they have some special dispensation? (yeah right!) I even panic about driving the 968 with any sort of gusto these days. Owning a Carrera GT must be the ultimate in frustration! []

What would I do with £350k instead? Spend £50k on improving my house, buy a holiday home in Spain, re-stock my beer cupboard big time, and then buy a GT3. Guards red, black alcantara interior, black centred wheels.

Anything left over would be converted into pound notes (Scottish ones) and hidden under my mattress, to be spent on future supplies of beer and petrol. I no longer trust the financial services industry in this country,[] and believe my mattress is safer with a higher potential for fiscal growth![:D]

John they also said the following:-

Autocar have just tested the Carrera GT £330,000 pounds worth and have said

"The crux of this test is that Porsche has somehow managed to make its fastest production car feel like a 600bhp Boxster."

"The Carrera GT is like a 600bhp Boxster "S". You'd expect such an observation to bring violent response from the company's engineers, but that is just what they want to hear.

They deliberately wanted to sustain a tangible link between the uber-car and their little Boxster and it really does exist - from the familiar feel of the steering wheel rim to the weight of the rack itself, all the way down to the way it squirms in the hands at the straight ahead."

As I own the latter I think I shall just enjoy the 300K left overs doing similar stuff to you but also treating myself to exotic car hire at weekends of my choosing :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: from the interest raised by not buying that Red GT3

£330k? Lemme see:

Keep my car (natch)
928GTS (£20k)
70-73 911E or S (£20k)

And somewhere to live that's not a:)rented or b:)a shoebox!

i made the assumption that if i was ever in a position to spend £330k on a single item then I'd be already living in the big house with the model girlfriend/boat/apartment in monaco etc - therefore would not have to put money under my bed anymore..[:)]

Yes I saw it -- I think it was a repeat.

The drool factor was certainly very high but I am coping by thinking of the ridiculous place the engine is placed!

I prefer 50:50 weight distribution and even 4 wheel drive would not satisfy the question marks I have got.

Anyway couldn't afford it!

Those are my official excuses until I get enough cash, however the new 4 seat Ferrari called Scaglietti (612), is a lot like a 968 in concept - a front engine way back, gearbox in the rear, simple but stunning styling.

I wonder whether TopGear will get their hands on one of those see: http://www.ferrari.co.uk/collection/612_scaglietti/index.asp
