What would you do in my case?

Hi all,

I am in a bit of a conundrum and need a bit of advice.

I am looking to purchase a 2019 Cayenne S from a dealer (not a Porsche one). The car has full Porsche service history, 4 previous owners BUT has missed its regular maintenance schedule.

The car has covered 14 thousand miles since July 2022 and it was supposed to have a major service in March 2023 but hasn't done it. The dealer said it will get the car serviced at an OPC before I collect it.

It also has a parking sensor malfunctioning so this should be fixed too.

Is the broken service schedule off putting? Will it affect me purchasing a Porsche warranty assuming it passes the 111 check? I am a bit annoyed that the missing service doesn't have a good excuse...

My suggestion would be to contact your local Porsche Centre, give them the full details and ask their view on purchasing a warranty for the car. At least this will be the definitive answer.

Thank you, will do. They let me know of the missed service too, so a quick call should be able to get me an answer.

How would you react, would you go for the car?

The car has full Porsche service history.....BUT has missed its regular maintenance schedule.???

How does that work???

All services have been done by Porsche. The last one was supposed to be a major one last year. It missed it and it will be done this year... so missed one year. It is still considered full PSH no?

Firstly, as a new member welcome to the Club and forum. I get where you’re coming from regarding full Porsche history, meaning a main dealer is the only one to have worked on the car.

My only concern would be if a previous owner has missed a service schedule, I would be also wondering if they’ve cut corners elsewhere? With that kind of mileage, they will definitely have needed to replace a set of tyres, may be worth checking the brand it has fitted. If it has premium Porsche spec, happy days if not it would be indictive of someone trying to keep the costs down. That said if it’s only the last service that’s missed, again the previous owner may have thought it wasn’t necessarily due because of the mileage rather than the dealer set time scales, especially if thinking of changing the vehicle.

That said let’s be realistic clearly the car is only a little over five years old so I’m guessing it's substantially cheaper than from any Porsche dealership directly, therefore if you factor that in against paying OPC prices and it is possible to extend the Porsche warranty then why not, however as you’re already questioning yourself if it’s worth the gamble, personally I would walk away and find one you’re more happy with.

Thanks for the welcome and the detailed reply.

Great point about the tires, I will check with them.

The car did 12k miles between the last service and now, so I have no idea why they would skip a major service.

OPC seems happy that if it comes up to date with the services and pass the 111 point check, to give me warranty

If the OPC are happy to do the service and accept a warranty on the car, then I cant see a problem, especially as its done so very little miles since the last service.

It certainly wouldn't put me off buying it/

Thanks Peter, the car has done 13k miles since the last service I think
