Ah well... there are lots of forums out there
Sums it up in a nutshell for me. Fragmenting forums in to little "cliques" just means people can't follow all of them, the pool of knowledge and experience is diluted, and who the hell gains from that? We'd all have loved to follow Wuf's progress.
Titanic used to be the one place we could all come together as a group, learn from each other, make friends, and most importantly add to the enjoyment of owning the cars. That had to change as forums took over from mail lists, fair enough, so we had two forums where you could choose to reside. Halving the group, but still workable.
Given how many 944 owners there are in the UK, and how many of them are on t'internet all day, perhaps "lots of forums" isn't the way forward? If we end up with every forum dividing each time someone feels the need to wave their tackle around at some perceived "slight", then we could well have 500 owners, and 500 people sitting at home with their own little forum!
Given that I've battled for nearly ten years to keep this forum open to non-members, and I believe Tipec have the same policy, it's a huge insult to be told that because a few cars in Birmingham didn't include the right models, we have to divide in to groups of disgruntled ex-members. Get real, see the bigger picture, and let's just get back to being a large group with proper buying and bargaining power.
Sorry, rant over. I'm the first to support small, 944-specific events. But, if it becomes some sort of "us and them" thing then we all lose out. You don't see the other models moaning that they aren't invited to Rutland, yet we seem to see people being all dramatic about the 944s not being invited to the NEC this year. I've seen more snobbery this week over the 944s than I've ever seen from the different 911 groups. [:'(]
It's all becoming something I'd rather not be a part of, and I suspect the silent majority see it the same. [&o]
