Whats best valance or splitter?

I have a 944 1986 model and I want to improve my rear end.I have located a slotted lower rear valance and the Turbo style rear splitter. My question is which one do you think looks best for my car??
Many thanks for any reply in advance.[;)]

Personally, I think the stock turbo rear diffuser looks the best out of any aftermarket options I have seen thus far. The nice thing is it will bolt on to an n/a 944 without any modifications, AFAIK.

Even though I have a Turbot I much prefer the toast rack valance. I don't know if either provide any real advantage aerodynamically I just thing the toast rack looks more butch.

I've never liked the slotted grille. For years I thought it was an aftermarket non-porsche accessory and was shocked when I found out it was genuine []

Love the Turbo/S2 valance though [:)]

I think the toast rack suits the lux, but the turbo S2 unit is supposed to generate some downforce by smoothing the airflow,

I think the toast rack looks great from certain angles, this is one of my favourite pics and I also have it on my desktop [;)] (taken from Rick's site)

But saying that I may remove it soon [:(]. I'm struggling with the idea of keeping a non functioning part on a car that's going on another fairly strict diet. Plus I can't help feeling it must add drag, the airflow under the car getting caught up in its scoop shape, and it does look a lit dumpy from the side [:)]
I'm not sure what, if anything will replace it just yet, but the supposed cooling/aerodynamic benefits of the turbo valance means its in the running...

I think the toast rack looks cool on your car it gives the rear end a nice beefy look and I think the colour also makes a difference too.[8D]

The Turbo underbody spoiler was also supposed to circulate air around the Gearbox and Exhaust to aid cooling,as well as looking lovely.

No valance, no wiper, no model insignia, uuum no back seat, uuum no front silencer, no cat...no clutch[:D]

I'm a bit sceptical of the aerodynamic claims of the turbo/S2 under bumber 'spoiler'. For one there is a thumping great spare wheel well and a big exhaust back-box that blocks the airflow to the majority of the spoiler so if it did have any aerodynamic properties they would be rendered useless. Not to mention the turbulent airflow from under the car that would prevent any downforce being extracted from it. All the apendages on F1 cars are only there to smooth the turbulent airflow to make the rear wings more effective so you can imagine how useless the turbo S2 rear spoiler would be sat just behind the wheel well and back box. I think the rear spoiler is for asthetic purposes only so if you have a dedicated track car you would probably be better not having one at all and save the weight and drag. I can't imagine Porsche spent much time in wind tunnels developing the spoiler and paying much attention to the airflow under the car!

I have seen photo's somewhere for a proper rear diffuser but it was so low (as it would have to be to make it effective) that it wouldn't be suitable for the road.

See profile picture left.

I quite like it, and if John says it makes me look butch then that's cool with me....[;)]

sawood12, whats needed is a brave volunteer to go for a fast drive with the spoiler on, then do the same drive with it off, and see how it feels.

Dont' forget that Porsche dropped the under-bumper spoiler on the 968 in favour of a more asthetically pleasing rear end.

Well I settled for the splitter and bought one off a rgular supplier on ebay for 85.00 inc postage.I have dropped it off at local bodyshop for prep and paint so that I can fit it next weekend.
Looks straight forward to fit[;)]

.....Looks straight forward to fit[;)]

I've heard it described in many ways, none of which would get past the forum word sensor. Strangely enough none said it was straight forward.

I think the main problem comes when needing to drill into double skin sections that you can't get to the back of....But then it is a Porsche; so spending four hours taking off bits to get access to a job that only takes ten minutes is quite normal.

Can you let us know how the install goes?
Also, what do you think of the quality of the splitter? If I go down this route I will certainly be considering getting one from him too.
Best regards,
Peter.

Hi Peter
The quality of the splitter is good,it comes in primer ready for painting and the only thing I had to do before it was painted was to drill 2 holes that hadnt been predrilled.I will let you know how I get on with the fitting once done.
These are readily available still on ebay from the same supplier still.
