What's it called?

I'm hoping someone can easily identify the part pictured. Changed the wheels from winter to summer at the weekend and while the wheels were off noticed these plates had rusted through on both sides. Does anyone know what it is?

If it is identified then the next questions; how important are they and how tricky are they replace?

Not a lot to go on there. [:-]

It may help if you could give us a little bit more to go on, i.e.. which model, year and whether front or rear.
Also, a wider angle photo would help.

Regards,

Clive.

Give us a clue - front/back? Is the plate horizontal or vertical? You might be able to find it in here...[;)]

Sorry had to trim the photo down to post it.

Model is a 2007 C4.

Rear or the car (at a guess it is bolting to engine mount, but that is a guess). Plate is horizontal running front to back of the engine, picture is taken looking in though the rear wheel arch.

Looks like the cylinder head/coil pack heat shield?

Yes, looks like you've nailed if Chris, well done!

It appears to be a straight forward replacement job and it should be done in order to safeguard the engine's electrics.

Regards,

Clive.

Thought I'd do one side of the car to start with. Got the part from design911.com and it arrived without issue; a total 8 emails and 3 text messages telling me where the order/delivery were at each stage.

The link posted by Chris was really helpful: -

The author does mention the "side mufflers" and with them in place one of those Torx screws is tricky to access using a standard sort of socket set; something like a flex drive extension or universal joint might have speeded things up a bit.

The Heat Shield ("996 104 445 02") part isn't as symmetrical as it looks in the catalogue, but it looks like the same part is used for both sides of the car.
