Whats it worth? 944 Turbo

Guest

New member
A friend is selling his 944 turbo, 1986, seems in very good condition. 75000 miles , with all MOT's and full specialist service history to back up.

Looked over the car, all seems in good order.

Can someone please give me a guide on the price of a vehicle this age and mileage?

any advice much appreciated.

James

If it's nice then 5 to 6 grand I'd say without seeing it (sorry, no pound sign on this keyboard).

Thanx, is there anywhere i can get a valuation on the car online? to know what an insurance company would offer in the even of a claim.

Cheers

Not really, our cars are too old for a one size fits all valuation online. With cars of this age its all about condition of the individual car. You can pick up Turbos from a few thousand all the way through to over £13,000 (and thats not even for the Concours true showroom quality cars

A standard insurance policy would offer you the rock bottom Glasses guide which would be scarily low - circa £3k at a guess. A classic policy with an agreed value for your individual car beforehand would be much better.

Have to admit the 86 turbo I bough for £5,000 had 80,000miles on the clock and was exceptionally good and looked alot nicer than all the others I looked at but turned out to have scoring in one of the bores:( still I would think £5,500- £6000 at best is probably about the most someone will pay.. unfortunately!

Well he is asking just under £7000 for it, a bit steep i think. Plus im not overly keen on the colour, and i would want to put a nice set of wheels on it.

So i think il give that one a miss.

Iam having real trouble finding a nice turbo in a "darker" colour, ie dark red, or blue. With good history and mileage.

Any ideas on where i should be looking, other than Auto Trader, Pistonheads and 911&Porsche world magazine.

This will be your problem. Nice ones are getting rarer all the time. There are plenty of dogs out there and they will bring the price down accordingly, but the really good ones will still fetch a premium and will be over £10k

You may always be lucky and find a good one that the owner has underpriced because he does a search on Autotrader and finds all the tat. The best ones will be owned by an enthusiast (probably a club member) and is happy to pay between £1k and £2k a year just maintaining it and then probably a bit more improving all the cosmetic things to his satisfaction to get it looking just right.

There is no such thing as a cheap Porsche

I will just have to keep waiting and searching, i dont mind paying the price if its a genuine good car. I just tink the 7000 he is asking is a bit much for that particular car.

Thanx for all the help tho. And if anyone has a nice turbo they are thinking of parting with in the south of england, give me a pm!

James

There is what appears to be a decent one on www.paulfrench.co.uk or a modified one on autotrader up for resale due to a crook on e-bay!
(Both Guards Red) oh there is also one on pistonheads from peakporsche.
Good hunting

Thanx for that bit of info! I must admit that does look like a clean example, not sure im a "red" car kinda guy,

Appreciate your input !
