What's it worth?

Anybody care to put a value on this please?

993 Cabriolet, 1996(N), silver, grey ruffled leather, 57k miles, OPC+specialist history, last serviced by an OPC 1000 miles ago with a file note "excellent condition". I believe it to be unmodified. Being sold with what is supposedly a very good warranty, but who knows!!

Also, would it be Varioram?

Cheers
Andy

'96 should be varioram. I'd take a guess at 26k-27k from a dealer this time of year maybe a bit more if the waranty really is one that will pay out.

Thanks JB.
I have now seen the car, it's very tidy but no air con and the warranty is limited to £1500 per claim!!
Any more opinions please?

Cheers
Andy

a few more questions...

which wheels ? any sat nav or gadgets ?

air con & heated seats ?

It was up for £27k, I've just agreed to pay £25,500 subject to PPI.

My wife really wanted a Coupe, God help me if it leaks!! (somebody PLEASE tell me they don't leak).

Cheers,
a very happy Andy

Andy , Im picking my 993 Cab up tommorrow ( and with the current weather - I will soon be able to tell you if it leaks [;)] )

Doh!!

I shalln't be buying it, HPI shows it's a Cat D total loss. I know Cat D is usually body damage, but this was in July 2000, so with what the car was worth at that point it's a heck of a lot of damage!!

[&o] Gutted.

Hi Andy,

Having had my 993 cab for 4 years in all the weather that 4 years can throw at you. It hasn't had any leakage problems at all - I do coat it in Autoglym Cab Roof stuff a couple of times a year, maybe it helps. When you do get to lower the roof check very carefully that the locking rods (halfway along roof edge either side of roof, just above drivers/passenger windows) clear the roof fabric by quite a margin. If not the sharp pointed rods could puncture the roof fabric - couple of 000's to replace roof. A couple of new elastic strips (southbound trimmers) will solve the problem - before it happens! Enjoy !

I can assure you they do not leak.. The previous Cab (3.2 SSE) we had did leak but was easily fixed... as it is normally the seals at the back edge of the window, where it meets the hood. Both our Cab and Coupe live outside and are 100% water tight... even when using a jet washer...
Sorry to here the car turned out to be a CAT D.. .. You maybe interest in our Cab as it looks like it may have to go to fund a house move... Its a 1996 (oct) P Reg. Carrera 4 Cabriolet, 6 speed manual, with factory 18" turbo wheels, hard back seats.. colour coded leather interia, FSH with about 75k on the clock..

Andy,

Cat D is minor damage, not total loss!

CAT D means that the cost of repairs was greater than the value of the car - in 2000 this would have been +40k?

Thats a lot of body damage...

The categorisation refers to whether the car can legally be repaired, and what standard of inspection is required before the vehicle is allowed back on the road

CAT D - I think - means that the vehicle can be returned to the road without an inspection, but the categorisation will remain with the vehicle

No cat D in real terms is when it is easier for the insurers to pay out than faff about arranging repairs, I know this as they paid ot on my last 993 which had about £6k worth of damage. The car is not a physical write off it is merely in the eyes of the insurance company a financial write off.

The official definition is:

D - Repairable salvage. Minimal damage sometimes stolen and found after claim has been paid, or cost of repair combined with difficulty obtaining new parts to enable a swift repair.

From the HPI report:

Summary: VRM recorded as a total loss by an insurance company.
Condition Alert: D - vehicle damaged but repairable - the insurer decided not to repair.

From my perspective, there is no record of who eventually repaired the car so I have no idea if it was done properly. I'm not going to fork out on a PPI to find out, as even if it's fine the car will be a handful to sell on quickly should I need to. The right car for me is out there, just got to start looking again.

Cheers
Andy
