Whats it worth

Hi all

I've been advertising my 996 Cab 01 facelift Guards Red, 65k miles, pristine, Extended warranty until June, for the last three weeks and have recently been told that it is only worth 30k - not that they have viewed it - just by people looking for a bargain I guess. My question is - what is it worth in reality. I paid for a valuation on-line by Glasses guide and it said Trade 31-38k but one of the supposed buyers said Glasses reckon 30k. So which is it - anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Grant

Glasses guide is just what it's called a guide. Often does not reflect real world prices. Your asking price is a very fair starting point compared to others in the market. But it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Never discuss the price over the phone. If their really interested they will travel to see the car, then the haggleing can begin. If you agree a lower price on the phone, all you will have achieved is setting a new base price from which any purchaser will start negotiations again! Good luck.

Grant,

I was looking extensively at prices of cars similar to yours in March (prices were slightly lower than now). I saw 1 silver car with 55k asking £37k (private), I saw a couple at dealers for £38k with slightly lower mileage, but most were advertised between £39-42k (but mileage was between 25-40k). I might have seen 1 car asking £35k, but that was the bottom line.

I think £30k is a total joke, I'm still seing pre-facelift cars for £35k+ at dealers.

Guards red may not be a popular colour (although I think it's stunning), but if you have the essentials like PCM, Sat nav 18inch alloys etc then you really should be getting in the region of 35k for it, definately no less than 33k (at 33k it would probably be one of/the cheapest in the country).Your warranty is a good plus.

Forget the guides, trawl pistonheads,Top Marques,Autotrader online, and you will have a much better idea of prices. Use those places to sell it too......also try free places such as Porsche specialist magazines, here, Porsche Post.....I found Pistonheads and Autotrader to be the best when selling my Boxster.......

Good luck!

I have been looking myself and unfortunately an 01 car is not fetching much more than £30k. There are plenty of cars with unrealistic prices, but they are not selling. It would appear the law of supply and demand is in force with a vengence!

The other problem that you have is that the car is a cabriolet, which always go for less money than the coupe despite what magazines say. Don't get me wrong, because I will be looking for the most unfashionable combination of a cabriolet with tiptronic gearbox once I had sold my 993.
