What's it worth?

Hi All.
This is my first post for a few years so please bear with me. Having just let a very nice 993 slip through my fingers (did not try too hard as I did not like the colour) I have now been offered a 997 Turbo. 2006 vintage, black on black, 40k smiles. Manual box. Full main dealer service history and the last remaining months of a Porsche warranty. I know the owner and it is a well loved car. One or possibly two previous owners but the present owner since 2008. The only slight glitch that I am aware of is an over rev early in it's life (around 2008) but for the moment I am disregarding that. Once I have a handle on the value I will get that checked out.
We both have a figure in mind, and surprisingly my figure is not quite the same as his. Any thoughts?

Ok I'll go first. Depends on condition of course and any looming bills, but somewhere around £37k would be my guess.
 
Thank you. I'm with Jim but the owner is with Geoff. It is very nice and had a big spend in September last year on a major service and all new tyres. Watch this space.

Thanks all. It's still there and the owner is ready to change to a 991. We had a little chat today and if it's £37-£38k we will have a deal.
 
Driven the car-awesome. Very clean although bumper and bonnet could do with a repaint as usual. Price is right but just one snag. Diagnostic shows an over rev in all ranges back in 2009. Just a few cycles in range 6 but that must mean a lot more in 4 and 5. Presumably a missed gear or botched downshift. Over 200 hours since then and balance of Porsche warranty for the next few months but I am buying this as a keeper. I always said that I would accept rev ranges 1-3 but this is putting me off. Any thoughts?

If Porsche Engineering can't take an over rev now and then it would be a sad day for us all. As long as it has not been a reoccurring issue then I would not worry about an isolate incident. What does your local OPC say about a range 6 over rev occurrence? Did you use the Porsche PIWIS or the DURAMETRICS diagnosis to get the over rev data? I think the Durametric system gives more detailed information should you really want to worry yourself further ;) For those interested and maybe not already aware: The 6 ranges can be broken down as: Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM And here are some suggested checks and sums before you buy a second-hand Porsche: http://www.durametric.com/usedporschebuyersguide.aspx
 
The fact it currently has a Porsche warranty suggests the Rev Range 6 event of 2009 was previously investigated by Porsche and they were satisfied with what they found. This combined with the fact that it happens 200 trouble free hours ago suggests that on the balance of probabilities all should be well for years to come. If you can get a 2 year Porsche extended warranty put on then I think the risk is small and it is one I might take. But have a mind to the fact that when selling the price will likely be affected by the fact the RR6 will still be there whereas the warranty option will not. Also bear in mind the cost of a new turbo engine which may be around £30k. However if the car is already time barred from additional warranty it comes down to personal choice and with plenty of cars with zero RR I would probably look elsewhere.
 
The data was given to me by the Porsche main dealer with the owners consent and was based on a diagnostic last October. I am not sure which system they use but it was done when they renewed the warranty. If I buy I will get a fresh test done. I am up to speed with all of the online information including Peter Morgan and 911 Virgin (very helpful) but my concern is that it is in the last year of Porsche warranty and I am not sure how another insurance company will view the over rev. I am inclined to walk away, sell my Lotus Elan and buy a later car.
 
Price has just come down another £1500, not a lot compared with a £30k engine but now looking very tempting. If I do not buy it will go into the trade, so someone will buy it.
