Whats my 996 C4 worth?

Now that I have transferred my number plate to my new 996 TT, I'm ready to sell my 996 C4 but I'm not sure what price to ask.

It's a 2001, facelift, 3.6L, C4 coupe, 67,000, full OPC servicing, black with black leather and alloy pack. I'm the second owner and had it since 2002 when it had done 5,000 miles and I paid pretty much the list price of a new car at the time, as there was a 6 month waiting list.

The body, paintwork and wheels are perfect as you can see from these photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/112365153629544628000/Porsche99621May2011?authuser=0&feat=directlink

I've looked after it very well and had extra services and oil changes carried out to keep it in perfect condition.

If that was all, then I think I'd price it around £20k and expect to get circa £18k. However, last November it had an IMS failure and the engine was stripped and rebuilt by Hartech in January at a cost of £8k. So with this car there in no IMS failure to worry about and the rebuilt engine is guaranteed and feels great.

What price do you think I should ask and expect to get?

My facelift 996C4 suffered catastrophic engine failure and I ended up replacing the engine at OPC Bolton. I'm afraid that this added nothing to its value - purchasers of secondhand car expect a functioning engine!

To relative (and real!) experts on here, the engine work is seen as a good thing but to the wider market, major/ replacement engine work (wrongly) is seen as some sort of stigma attaching to the car.

Best of luck with the sale, they are great cars.

For a car like that you need a more knowledgable customer base. I've had great success selling on pistonheads. I'd go on there, take a look at what is being sold at the moment. Add a sensible bit over a comparative car for the Hartech re-build (maybe £1000) because someone looking for the right car will be willing to pay that over a car that may fail and then price accordingly.

Have confidence. It will sell. If I were looking for one I would definitely ONLY consider a Hartech re-built engine. I could not be doing with the worry without knowing someone knowledgable had been through it and made the sensible modifications to reduce the chances of it going again. Hartech as far as I know have never had an engine they've done fail again!

Regards,

Ben

Likewise. I would buy a Hartech engined car above a standard one. At how much of a premium is a different question. For the layman, perhaps emphasising the differences in the advert would not be a bad move, with a link to Hartech?

+1 Likewise,

Anyone that knows anything about these cars would far rather have an LN ceramic bearing than the OPC chocolate teapot.

I have a feeling Hartech use the standard bearing, but remove the seals for improved lubrication. Autofarm seem to have the monopoly on the LN bearing.

Well if they do thats a real shame, I know that Volkswagen spares also fit the LN bearing so they cant have sole distributer rights in the UK.
Volkswaggon spares

To have another oem bearing fitted would be a real shame.
I know they made improvements but they still fail.
