Took my C for a run today - what a pleasure - whilst I was travelling down the M11 a lady of some years leaned out of a new Jag passenger window and gave me the thumbs up[:D]

Anyway just looking through the Porsche Post 356 Register section and we seem to have next to nothing organised for the 356 Register to attend in the UK this year. A few good National events but as far as I can see we have one Register event (ie Hedingham) in September, hardly a busy season for the senior Register for those that wish to stay in the UK this season and drive[&o]

There is Duxford may 2nd that is just off the M11 that is a classic car event. Ill be taking my young lad that day. Im guessing a few 356"s will be attending

Thanks for that David - I will be at this event which is organised by Region 11 - Essex.

Do you know of any other 356 Register UK organised events other than the Hedingham one?

Actually I don't but I'm keen to know of any if u find any. Sorry to mention the Duxford show u already know of. I'll b in attendance hopefully see you there

Hi John
Seems a real shame that there are not many events organised for the 356 Register. Even if they turn up to support a Region or Regsiter there would be a great enthusiasm to see these cars.

Why not have a word with the RS - Fred Hamptom - and see what if anything he has anything in mind. Though I think he may be more foucussed on the international 356 scene. If he is busy why not get something organised on his behalf?

You could always ask the Register Director for his help in this if you up against a brick wall!.

Hi John

That is just the way it is in the PCGB for the 356. Fred does work hard for our cause but doesn't always seem to get the backing or funding from PCGB. Regarding the UK , you may try joining the DDK Classic Porsche Club, or look on their Web Site to see what events they have. If you are brave enough to catch a Ferry! Take a run down to this years Classic Le Mans in early July, fast catching up the Goodwood Revival as the Premier Global Classic event there is! Everyones Going!

Kind regards

Jay

Not really acceptable is it.

All ROs and RSs are actively encouraged to raise the profile of their register and give some sort of focus to their members whether it be here on the forum, website or social gathering or a mixture of these.

To direct people away from the club is not really the answer.

Hi Jay,

Have a word with Fred about this. He will be aware that, as discussed at the Worker's Conference a couple of weeks ago, there is the opportunity for more funding now the Club is back in the black. It was obviously a problem when the Club was in financial trouble, but that's changed now.

With no reason for funding being an issue, the only question is to get events organised. Why not get a few of the Register members together to help out?

Not sure Fred could make the conference - I don't recall seeing him.
I don't know if the board have communicated the funding news to those that could not attend?

Just a point to clarify.

This type of extra funding has been available for over 10 years now. It was initiated during my time on the board (1998 - 2003) and all ROs and RSs at that time were aware of this. I even referred to it in the first ROs handbook and I have no reason to think its not been carried on into subsequent revisions.

During the more cautious financial period then I can understand that this may well have been put on the back burner so that the club could get back on its financial feet. However, all boards have always been receptive to any reasonable financial request and they are judged on their various merits.

As the say goes - if you don't ask - then you don't get!

Given that everyone was free to attend, or send a representative in their place, or ask one of the other attendees to give them an overview of the Conference, or call the relevant Region or Register Director with any questions, I think there's no need for the Board to summarize everything and send it out to all who didn't make it!

Think you may have missed my subtle attempt at saying Fred wasn't there Paul... ! [:D]
