Swepco, get it from Bert Gear at Berlyn Services. His details are in the Club Directory as 944 Technical Bod

I'd avoid Royal Purple as I have heard of it leaving the metal exposed if the car is left standing for a period...this may be hear say but such things tend to start some where.

I've always been very impressed with Red Line lubricants when used in engines and have no reason to consider they would be any less effective in the transmission.

A word of caution. A 944 owner (known to many here) once used the wrong transmission oil and wrecked a previously excellent box in 250 miles. [:(]

As always, make sure you can remove the filler plug before you drain the oil from the emptying plug.

Mine was rounded off and as per forum thread I had to tack weld a bolt to get the old one out.I very quickly fitted the new plug but felt that due to notchy gears (1st and 2nd)I would change the oil.Good job I didnt just drain the oil without noticing the filler plug![8|]

Swepco is the best one I know of at the moment... Have been looking for something else for years but have found nothing to compare.... I normally tell people to buy it direct from Bert Gear at Berlyn services because I cant get close to his price. If someone books their car into me for a gear oil change with swepco, I tell them to buy it from Bert and then I will buy whats left over in the can.

I fitted Hotblacks oil he mentions, and it seemed like good oil, but he didnt have any issues before we changed the oil and he does not clock up a million miles per year... So its hard to know how good it is, I am sure its good though!

Only problem with Swepco.. it can tend to bulk a bit when changing into second when its blooming freezing weather until the oil gets a bit warmer.

Apart from that, I have been using it for years... it never seems to break down, it freeze frames the box (it never seems to get worse after its used) and I have never had a complaint from it (apart from in the cold).
