Whats the Meaning of SC

In the book 'Porsche and Ruf Sportscars' by Marc Bongers, Marc states that S.C. stands for Super Carrera. Staff at the Porsche factory say that Marc Bongers is one of the most knowledgeable people regarding Porsche history. It is also a very interesting book if you can get it.

According to Porsche, there was no official meaning for SC, but I've heard a rumour Porsche staff dubbed it "Super Carrera" Not to sure about thatyself, bearing in mind they were German! (edit: although I suppose super could also be used in german, isn't it originally Latin or Greek? I'm no linguist!)

Eh??? Are you saying that the factory stuck the letters "SC" on the cars for no reason?

Surreal.

It's a marketing thing. Like the Mitsubishi evo FQ 380 (or whatever) FQ apparently doesn't stand for anything. Those in the know however say it means "Effin Quick," but they probably wouldn't want to print that in a brochure!

So it could be any, or none, of these ![:D]

So, if the one before the last was the 356C then it was the 356 (Super)C. Or they found a couple of boxes full of "S's" and "C's" in the back of the factory and just wanted rid of them knowing full well that in years to come people on an internet forum would be trying to figure out why the hell they called it that.

Captain! Nice to see you slummin' it down here in the tractor forum!

I like your thesis. It would be ruthlessly German to use up surplus badges from previous models. Alzough I somevhat doubt zey vould haf macht ze mistake of ober-ordering in ze first place. Nein?

I have reviewed your list and I find Shower Curtain an acceptable idea, although I think the first item to be more accurate: Shopping Cart. Genius. Have you seen how much you can get in the back of an SC? Several cubic centimetres more than a 997, I can tell you! Why, I was only down at B&Q the other week and bought enough garden lights to fill a 9 yard skip. SC, sir? No problem sir!

You cannot imagine the perverted pleasure...........
As they used SC on the 356 and again on the 911 years later that would suggest something more that happenstance, thus the theory that it is just meaningless lettering seems hard to swallow. I thought the "FQ" on the Evo was a well known "fact". Crikey, this is more pointless than the "Pointless Threads" thread!

Super Carrera . In earlier Porsches , S always stood for Super . I used to own a 356B S90. Am now reduced to a 911E / S and a 964RS [:(]
