What's the widest Fuchs I can fit on a 944 ?

I have 7" x 16s on the front, 8" x 16s on the back, but both sets look as if they could go wider. They are all genuine Fuchs, had some replicas delivered and I sent them back as they were heavy and rubbish. Can they go wider ?

...on an early offset car; on an ABS offset car Id guess 9" and maybe 10" (assuming that youre looking at fitting them onto a series two car). The incorrect offset shouldnt be too much of a problem at the back, but itll FUBAR your geometry at the front...

Do you want to sell the 7" and 8" Fuchs? What did you not like about the replicas apart from being heavy? heavy is a good enougth reason but you also said they were rubbish, could you expand on that a little?

Perhaps the best option would be to get a pair of 9" and use the 8" on the front? Actually they look a lot better on the early offset 944 with some 10mm spacers on them which is your cheapest option. A mate did that on the back only on his '87 Turbo and it looked much, much better without upsetting the handling or over tyreing the car.

I would certainly agree that wide track cars look very smart with early offset wheels. Even a set of smart ATS cookie cutters will look good...

In answer to a previous question, the replica Fuchs (Breils) were really heavy compared to real Fuchs and Bob Watson, which was where my car was at the time ,said they would not fit despite offsets and stud fittings were quoted as being correct.

Id guess that your car is a 1986 built 1987 model year car then, because a 23mm offset car will easily fit 8" and 10" wheels.

real fuchs look great don't they . This is my old late 86 Lux in 1996 . Gratuitous picture of Mrs Peanut walking the ollie[:D]

No, its registered May 86. I think the replicas offsets were wrong. I went onto ebay and bought my real Fuchs there in four deals, buying two pairs of 6 + 8, buying a pair of 7s and then selling the original tele dials and the 6s. I ended up with the 7+8s costing me just over £300 in total. I think that was a good result as the replicas cost me over £500 for the four wheels.
