Whats this? behind glove box, blower?

When putting the 944T back together i turned the ignition off and noticed a sound (even with key out) coming fom behind the glovebox area, it is this black unit in the picture making the noise, The hose you see connects to the unit, what does it do? and why isit consantly on?

Hard to see from that angle but does the hose connect to the back of the vent on the dashboard? If so it is the sniffer fan for the cabin temperature. I don't think it should be on with the ignition off though. The two wires you see ging to the hose are for the cabin thermistor. It should be part of the fan unit but it looks like yours has snapped off.
