What's this Gemballa worth?

A freind of mine will be offering his Dec. 1998 68k miles 996 3.4 Gemballa tiptronic for sale soon. Lots of history with Porsche centres and independants, old MOT's, receipts etc. New MOT will be obtained before sale. Currently in professional storage (4 years). Original intention was to keep but now he is not returning to UK for the foreseable future. Here are some words from him and photos.

"For the life of me I cannot seem to find the email trail, from 2005, that i had with Gemballa. I can remember that the guy at Gemballa who responded, after my initial general enquiry, was called Peter Bauer. Anyway, the conversion was done by Gemballa and not by some Halfords wannabe :)

The conversion included:
Engine cover and vented rear twin plane wing; Rear valence; Gemballa graphic; side skirts; Front PU - subsequently replaced by the GT2 style front end; Lowered suspension (it is not the car for someone wanting soft leisurely comfort); Gemballa Competition split rim wheels, with Gemballa Signature centre caps (I think they are 11.5J on the back and 9.5J on the front, but i cannot swear to that). The wheels have been completely refurbished by Jasmine Porsche in Lancashire (although 100 miles later I caught one of the front rims!!!!!! - otherwise they have only done a few hundred miles since the refurbishment. Gemballa Signature chrome exhaust tips.

The thing is that Peter Bauer confirmed Gemballa air intake system and exhaust. However, with the exception of the chrome tips, the exhaust and air box were standard when it got to me. I have no idea why the original owner changed them back to standard. I can only surmise (as I have driven a 993 with gemballa exhaust and air intake) that the owner, who lived in central London, might have been threatened with an Asbo!

In addition to all that, there is the sound system, which left my HI FI expert in raptures, but which was entirely over my head. There are 2 very expensive Alpine amplifiers (one of which is some sort of advanced controller) built into the floor well under the bonnet, and 2 (I believe) subwoofers contained within in the custom housing behind the rear seats. I removed the ludicrously complex dash unit in favour of the Pioneer unit which is there now.

As for the standard stuff:
I believe it is a 99 car which was first registered in December 98. It is a Carrera Tiptronic S 3.4. I believe the color is Arctic Silver, and the interior, with optional ruched (or ruffled) leather in Boxter Red, including sport steering wheel with gear shift buttons.

As far as body work goes I cannot recall any issues other than a very small scratch less than an inch long on the rear quarter panel. The interior has some scuffing to the side bolster of the driver seat, but is not actually torn, and there is some scuffing on the steering wheel.

Let me know if i have missed anything"

Thanks Guys

P.S. I need to think about what to do with the plate.

a Gemballa Turbo would be strong money but I expect less desirable on that model.

Personally I like it though

I quite like the way it looks too. I wouldn't have a clue on value though. I doubt that the Gemballa parts will make it hugely more valuable than a standard car, but they do make it stand out from the crowd. £11-12k as a private sale, perhaps??????

That front splitter would last about 5 minutes on the roads around here. It must be a nightmare on speed humps.

Geoff

Might be interested in the no plate, if he wants to sell separately?

I would have thought 10-11k would be ok for the car, but guess wont be everyone's cup of tea

These esitimates of value are a little lower than I expected but owner is realistic about market.
Andy, If you would like to email me an offer for the plate I'll advise owner and let you know. Personally I think the car should keep the plate to enhance sale potential.

It's not one for the purists. Without the conversion I reckon 8k to 10k depending on where it's being sold, luck and patience. With it, who knows. I think the number of potential buyers is less than if it was unmodified but someone might love it.

Obviously well looked after and looks good but the red leather is not everyones cup of tea, I think I'd start the bidding at around £13k and see what happens
