What's this noise? (987 Content)

I've heard this on multiple Caymans/Boxsters now.

In all the cars, the conditions required are:

  • FAST laps of a circuit. Even gentle 9 minute laps of the Nurburgring are not fast enough.
  • Heavy load in a corner (ideally cambered)
  • Once the noise is triggered, it can be replicated easier as laps go on (suggests temperature related to me so far)
Once the car has cooled for a minute or two, the noise will disappear. Never heard the noise during road driving.

At first I thought wheel bearing, but if the wheel bearing was making noise, I'm pretty sure it would cause side effects that you'd notice on the road (including 170mph on the Autobahn)

I was at Festival of Porsche last weekend and heard a Boxster race car with the same noise and put together a quick video to try and isolate the noise for you.

Someone must have heard/dealt with it before?
