Whats Wrong With My Car?

About a week ago, I footed it in my Porsche, eating a 350Z at the time - but the bad news was that the Engine Check light flashed, so I let off, and then it stayed on constantly. Heres the series of events since then...

- That night I noticed that the PSM was turned OFF, when I hadn't even touched it.
- Switched it back on, but in the morning it was off once again.
- I took it back to the garage and they diagnosed it to be a dodgy Air Intake Sensor.
- They replaced that, footed it and the light came back on AGAIN.
- The computer still says its a dodgy Air Intake Sensor.
- Now they say its a trial and error process to find the problem.

At this rate I'll be looking at getting my car, which I've only had a couple of hours with, back in God knows how many weeks time. Has anybody got any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Responses are appreciated. Cheers

They were right to change the MAF sensor, as it is a common problem and gives the symptoms you describe.

Do you know - or can you find out - what fault code(s) the computer showed up?

I've a memory of someone having a similar problem (albeit no mention of the 5k+rpm). Oddly it turned out to be a switch on the brake pedal, might be worth a go.

I assume from what you say the car is working fine apart from the psm deactivating, i.e. no lumpy idle, flat spots etc.
Has the check engine light flashed since?
Does it ONLY happen when you top 5k rpm? This would seem to be the key...

I can't answer the latest question, because my car is STILL at the garage. He's now changed the MAF, Fuel Injector, ECU and a few wires.

I'll tell him about the brake sensor.

It can also be caused by the bellows pipe to the Oil separator blowing. Mine did it at Brands Hatch on a track day. Was tere any oil leaking down the left side of the engine?
