What's wrong with this one?

Chaps,

This turbo seems to have been for sale for a while, in various different places.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1145707.htm

The price isn't steep, and it's supposed to have had recent work done on it too.

Why doesn't it sell? Has anyone seen it? Does it have holes bigger than Luton in the sills or something?

Have you phoned about it? I did some months ago and the impression I got was not of the kind of car I want to get involved with for that money. I haven't been to see it so couldn't say for sure but with a scrap engine bunged in it to sell and the few problems he mentioned it sounded like a money pit.

Ohh the irony given the car I've just bought![8|] but still I paid £1400 not £4000

Also he has had it at 5,000 until very recently and you can get a VERY good early 944 turbo for that money. I think he'll probably sell it to someone now if he's sensible and takes 4,000 . I didnt go in to it too deeply because of the 5,000 price but I had assumed that it had a properly rebuilt engine. Now you point it out , it could be just any old other second hand engine that's not a bonus is it [;)]

I was going to look at that car one sat lunch time, but the guy who runs the garage couldnt be arsed to stay open. So that put me off.

I too have seen this car for sale for a very long time, It's for sale from a non specialist dealer which is usually a turn off for many. It has another engine in the car - why would the original engine need replacing at 120k? interior is dull and it has other changes (such as no air box).

If it was for sale privately from an owner that had used the car for a few years - it may have got more interest.

Bodywork looks OK, but can't really tell if it has corrosion from the pictures. I would value it at £3,500 to somebody that wanted one of that year and specification.

Regards,
Andrew

Chaps,

Thanks. All helpful. I did wonder why it seemed to have been around for a while, and it sounds like there are a number of reasons - all of which will contribute.

I think I also need to re-iterate (contrary to what some people may imagine, after my questions about 3.0 turbos) that I am intensely happy with my S2, which is so far superior to any turbo, ever, anywhere, that it chews them up for breakfast and spits out the boost controllers. All clear? Good. [;)]

Ow I just found a £20 down the back of the sofa, I'm going to pop onto ebay and buy a chip for the turbo... ahh 300hp. So what's the best you can get out of your S2 again?[;)] ..still trying to keep it over that 200hp mark? My lawnmower has 190bhp[:D]

I hate it when people write whole paragraphs in CAPITALS, people do it thinking its easier to read BUT ITS NOT ITS WORSE AND IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR SHOUTING ALL THE TIME!!!!

So there!

That car has been around for at least 6 months, they also have a red S2 which has been up for sale for a similar period.

I refer my learned friend to my earlier comment. The one about the S2's being immeasurably much better than turbos. That one ... just scroll up a bit and you'll see it ^^^^ ....
