Wheel alignment

Elite Garage have checked the wheel alignment of my 2002 C4 (XS wear on inner rear tyres). The rear toe was out but they said they could not adjust it. They thought a special tool is necessary.

Has anybody had this problem and how was it solved without going to a OPC!

Have you tried some of the well known independents:

JZ Machtech
Autofarm
Ninemeister
G-Force

I'm sure one of these or many of the other recognised specialists should be able to help.

Good luck.

My OPC pointed out at the last service 1 week ago that both my rear tyres were bearly legal on the inner edge(as well as the RMS failure, see posts on that thread).

According to the OPC this was normal due to the camber of the rear wheels as dictated by the suspension setup (I have bog standard 996 C2 Coupe setup).

I tell you after the RMS farce I just dont know who to trust at Porsche.

I had Shirleys garage check and alter my rear tracking/alignment on my previous TT . Made a big difference to the tyre wear.
Not short of the OPC cost though.. in the region of £140.00

I changed rear tyres on a 996 C4 fairly recently after 13k miles. They have been run a couple of pounds under recommended pressure mainly for comfort. The were worn completely evenly across the tread. Alignment etc has been kept to Porsche tolerances. Fronts still have mileage in them and are again wearing evenly. Elite tyres in Dagenham do a great job on alignment using all the latest kit.

I'll scrub Parr off my list then! Last time I paid for a geometry setup was about £120 on my 993 by Peter Tognola at Datchet - not exactly Kent/Surrey, but might also be worth a try.

what - for a full 4 wheel geometry check/ set? I'd be amazed... (and bloody jealous! )

yes - laser alignment and they were one fo the few places that had the 987 Boxster with PASM settings in the database. I checked all the values with the OPC to confirm they were correct.

How did the alignment session with Wheels In Motion work out? Would you recommend them?

Terry

Thanks but I am now slightly confused. Your original refernce was to Wheels in Motion but in the Pistonheads link the refernce is to Center Gravity. Are they the same operator or did you change your mind?

just looked at your link. It's in Warwickshire - too far from Kent! Back to the drawing board... [:(]

Yes 340 mile round trip for me but worth it. It depends if you want it done properly or you just want the local garage to do it in under an hour . 6 hours he spent on mine. Any garage can do the usual laser geo to stop your tyres wearing, but if you want the car to handle too like its on rails then you go to this guy. Put it this was I wanted a gt3 but after he sorted my car I don't , it's quick enough and handles great now. You pays your money etc..............[:D]

Over 50 guys on pistonheads have had theirs done with him by the way.

I'm luck in only living just down the road from him!

Must say I would do the round trip as everything I have heard about him is excellant!!

I will be paying a visit very very soon!
