wheel anorak question - the BBS Sport Classic 17"

As some of you may know, I collect wheels.

I've just obtained (another) set of BBS SC but these have sat in the back of a garage/shed for 15 years, and as well as having tyres datestamped 1997 they have lovely metal valve stems.

My other set of Sport Classics have rubber valve stems (and more modern tyres)

Did all Sport Classics come with metal valve stems, which have since been binned by careless tyre-changer-monkeys at some point over the past 15 years, or are these a special tequipment version?

That looks like the Techno wheel valve 99336107300 only listed for the 18" Techno wheel fitment

Those look like standard metal valves which you can use in place of the normal rubber ones. Not Porsche specific and I have identical ones fitted to a set of wheels for a track car. Readily available.

Thanks Ian. I know that rubber stems can detach/rip at high speeds/racing conditions.

I think these came with the wheels, as the owner wore out the rear tyres, then had a different wheelset fitted to the car, the evidence :) being the datestamps on the tyres.

So it's probably how BBS delivered the wheels to Porsche, as they have not been touched since.

I have hollow-spoke Turbo wheels at the front and 4S factory-spec solid-spoke Turbo-look wheels at the rear. Don't ask.

The front wheels have metal valves and the rear wheels have rubber valves.

I understand the hollow-spoke front wheels require metal valves because they are hollow. The solid-spoke rear wheels do not require metal valves because they are not hollow.

My 993 has sport classic wheels fitted (17 inch). I've only ever seen them on one other car. Were they a standard Porsche upgrade do you know?
Robert

You can buy new OE ones from various sources - not cheap - or wait for them to appear on ebay.

Porsche sold them as an upgrade for the Boxster as well, but this application had 8.5J rears
