Wheel Balance 997s

Can not remove shake from steering wheel despite three balance attempts at different garages. Any views on cause and or solution. Vibration at 65 to85 mph ( on track of course )? Using newish Michelin tyres.

You may need to get the steering geometry checked and aligned?

Best done at an OPC - not sure of cost but at least a couple of hundred. Also check the tyre pressures.

As an example, my front N/S was re-sprayed yesterday which required the tyre deflating and the bead pushed back from the rim. Afterwards the tyre was just re-aligned and re-inflated, but not rebalanced. I was sure it would vibrate but after checking both pressures are spot on, there is no vibration.

The point I'm making is that the wheel/tyre balancing isn't hyper critical but if the toe-in/out or camber is wrong it could cause problems?

Thanks for your comments, very helpful. Went to Performance Tyres in Cambridge and they discovered 3 wheels incorrectly balanced and one tyre down on pressure! Made comment that weights were coming unstuck because prior balance work was applied to dirty surface. Seems OK now.

Good news, I know there is nothing more irritating than motorway speed steering vibration.

Seems that your alignment is OK then but it shows how important balanced tyre pressures are.

Well that was easy!! If you are tracking the car lots, worth taping up the weights with silver type tape (NOT duct tape -it will melt!!)
