Wheel balancing

sometimes they are hidden, just behind the wheel spokes..... I can't imagine your car would never had needed them... I also have a slight steering wobble at about 70 mph... I am geeting mine checked out this week. Charlie

Apologies but another naive question !

On all my previous cars I have been able to see balancing weights on the wheels eg side fixing lead weights or sticky weights inside the wheel itself.

Having looked for similar weights on my CS, I cant find any.

I am now doubting whether the wheels have been balanced by Porsche Leics at all which perhaps explains why I get slight steering wheel judder on certain undulating roads at 70-75mph unless this is just the sensitivity of the steering ?

Porsche ownership is turning into a fun and occasionally confusing experience !

Thanks

Paul if you don't get wheel wobble on smooth roads at a constant speed over 40 MPH then I'd say your wheels are balanced well, though it is possible that a wheel weight may have fallen off. I'm sure the guys at Porsche Centre Leicester will check it for you [:)]

Thanks very much Paz. No I dont get any wobble at all at those speeds. It may be me/the road surface I'm travelling on. I have searched high and low for balancing weights on all 4 wheels and cant find a single weight either inside the wheel, inside the spokes etc. Its a complete mystery unless they are attached to the inside of the wheel and I cant see or feel them. Porsche in Leic did their 115 point check or whatever it is, before I bought the car so surely that would have been on it ? My winter tyres will be going on in a about 6 weeks so I have an opportunity to re-balance the wheels then - or sooner of course if it gets any worse. Totally bizarre though and have never experienced this in 26 years of motoring !

That's it - I give up ! Have emailed the dealer tonight to say I cannot find a single counter weight on any wheel. What on Earth is that all about ? I have been under the car, felt inside the wheel spokes (boy were they dirty) and cannot find anything, nothing, squat ! Can anyone honestly find a counter weight on their wheels ? Surely Porsche didnt make mine without any ?

If you have no vibration and no balance weights it's incredible, I've never had tyres that well balanced. Certainly not to be worried about.

ok thanks Buddy. It feels fine on the road. When the winter tyres go on next month I will make sure they are properly balanced unless the dealer invites me down beforehand !

I see wheels on a daily basis that do not require weight. If the car is not vibration at 50+ on good roads then dont worry about it. [:D]
