Wheel Bolts / Oil questions

Hi all,

Couple of questions if I may:

I'm in the process of replacing the non-tasteful 19" fitted wheels with a recently purchased set of 18" Carrera classics front 8J x 18 H2 (Offset 50mm) rears 10J x 18 H2 (offset 47mm) to the 986 S. I understand that these won't require spacers. The question is will I be ok with standard wheel bolts? I'm assuming so?

Secondly, I want to do an engine oil change. As my engine is higher mileage (112k) I'm thinking of getting something that may be more appropriate for the engine protection. Would people advise 5W40 or 10W40? I think 0w40 will be too thin. What do folk recommend? I am intending on continuing to use Mobil 1 for it though.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon,

For standard Porsche wheels, extended wheels bolts shouldn't be necessary if you're not using spacers.

A lot of people seem to prefer using 5W40 oil on the higher mileage engines.

Hi Simon,

I use Mobil 3000 5-40. I think the 0 is too thin and agree with you.

Before its yearly change I -

Buy a Forte engine flush and put in the day before so it can do its work - 20 miles

Drain / change filter and refill. I also put in a Forte Seal Conditioner. This is a small tube which helps preserve the engine seals. I swear by it. My Boxster 2.7 doesn't have "any" engine leaks and is dry as a bone.

Read this thread and then use the recommended grade from a decent brand.
Forte engine flush

Thanks guys for the advice/tips. I've got myself some 5W40 ready for the service. I've also got my new 18" Carreras on the car now and what a difference they've made to the ride & handling.
