wheel fitment

hey guys another wheel fitment question! hopefully eventually i will find some that i like and that fit! i was just wondering peoples opinions on fitment of 17x8.5 all round split rim porsche twists to a 944 lux the offset is 55 so think they will fit but not sure about the fronts scrubbing.

I think you'll go close. Certainly 8.5" can fit on the front easily. The offset may just mean you might need a spacer. There are varied opinions on spacers on the front, but so long as you leave enough thread for a proper purchase. I run 10" all round et 60. An afterthought, you might run into problems with the original diameter springs though but I still think you'd be ok. Always worth checking the US sites like Rennlist and Pelican forums. There are just so many cars over there that someone has bound to have done what you're asking.

If your car has the later offset then yes they will fit, my track wheels are 9" all round with an offset of 55. What size tyres will you run, mine are 235 at the front and there is no rubbing?

I had 235s with 7.5" rims (slightly too wide, really), but I thought that the ABS offset wheels would foul on the inside.

just noticed the offset is actually 53 although cant see that making much difference. if you guys reckon these will fit im gonna go for them

On 8.5" rims!? What's the point of that? Thay won;t be terribly happy on those rims. If you want to run on 205 width tyres, fit 7" rims and get the benefit of the lower weight. If you want a tyre that makes use of the 8.5" rim then it's 225 minimum, and 235 would be better.

its because they are coming off a vdub. so the 'cool thing' to do is stretch them a bit. i will change them but at least i will be able to see how much clearance i have to play with

To clarify, I regard extreme stretching and protruding wheels (outside bodywork) to be extremely poor engineering practice though I am not suggesting that smiffyraf1's 205/40 on 8.5J to be an extreme stretch of the type seen on some of the now legendary PH threads. Equally importantly this is not wheel / tyre combos that protrude beyond the bodywork. In referring to this particular case I am suggesting that it is a sub-optimal combination of tyre and rim in performance and engineering terms, rather than trying to take the moral high ground. And I am sure that smiffy will feel an improvement when he changes them for something with a better balance of tyre width for hte rim. However, I am quite happy to go all Daily Mail when I see some of the peculiar things with 45 degree slanting sidewalls that are being tortured to death on various Golfs... that's just cruel, that is...

oh i totally agree! im an engineer on red arrows and understand completely the risks with stretch tyres although i myself having owned pre porsche a vw polo and had stretched tyres on and couldnt believe how fast the tyres wore out! go before show in the future! but am just purchasing these wheels with tyre already fitted i fully intend to change them as soon as possible but as has been mentioned the stretch on these is nothing compared to some i have seen where i struggle to see how they even have a seal to hold air in the tyre. happy new years everyone by the way

right these fell through as the guy had measured the PCD wrong so wouldn't have gone on. am now looking at some OZ futura split rims which are 17x7.5 and 17x10 at the back. am still waiting to hear back what the ET is but i thought the max you could fit on the back were 9" but the pictures of his show them on a 944 he says his is an early offset with spacers but will fit on my late offsetter? thanks guys!

has come back and said they are an ET of 61 so am assuming he means the rear. he says they fit on his early 944 with spacers so am trying to find out the size of his spacers now and that they originally came off a 968. but will they fit mine???!!! :( edit: spacers fitted are 35 and 42 mm.
