I've always believed that you should leave our cars as original as possible - cosmetically at least. The more mods the merrier [:D]

However... I've just spotted this ad on PH http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/73133.htm and these are the first set of aftermarket alloys that I really really like the look of. They're displayed on a 951 that shares my bodycolour too.

Question therefore is - are these Cup 1s or 2s and what's the going rate for a set? I understand the Cup 1s are pretty difficulty to come by?

Hi, they appear to be Cup2's, though i didn't know you could get them in the correct ofset for an '86 car, original or replica. I actually got offered a set in black a while ago (search my previous posts)

Cup1's are indeed rarer and a little more expensive, but they do turn up. I have just fitted a set of original Cup2's for which I paid £300. I have had them refurbed but they would have been OK as they were. But there was a little kerbing, so i thought I might as welll get them straight while they had no tyres on them.

Expect to pay between £250 and £450 for Cup2's depending on condition and tyres. You can add £50-100 for Cup1's when they pop up. Inevitably as soon as I had done the deal for mine, ebay was littered with them.

IMHO it's worth hanging out for originals rather than going for replicas - better resale, quality and weight.

Having originally wanted Cup1's, I think the Cup2's look great, [:)] I'll post some pics soon.

Matt

Paul - they look like Cup2's to me too (although those pictures are p1sh! [&:] )

See THIS 993 THREAD HERE for some nice coloured Cup2 images and info (correctly keeping the rim silver).

As Matt states, Cup2's are indeed (relatively) plentiful and cheap compared to Cup1's. If you can get a scruffy set that are due a refurb anyway.....

(as an example - these ones are slightly scruffy CLICK. Nothing to do with me though sir.

I don't think that set on ebay are genuine Porsche wheels, the ofset's wrong for a 7.5" ???

Cheers Gents - Those 17" rims would then accommodate 'big blacks' wouldn't they. Endless downward spiral into poverty... []

wasn't a criticism Mik - just meant that they would probably go for a little less than originals [:)]

993 cup2 wheels were 9" rears and 7" fronts.
968 Cup2 wheels wear 9 inch rears and 7.5" fronts and much more rare than the 993 parts.

Both the above wheels are for post 87 cars and require spacers to fit them to a pre 87 car.

I know the car in question and it has millimiglia cup2 replicas with the correct offsets specifically for the pre 87 cars.

I also have a set of these wheels for early offset cars, but am hanging onto them for a rainy day just in case...

On this particular car the centres are painted graphite grey with a polished rim, its a shame he has sold it.

He said on monday that he was going to sell it and get an E36 M3 instead... shame
