Wheel judder in full steering lock.

Can anyone assist me please?

When I have full lock on the steering and moving slowly I seem to be getting a clear and repeatable judder through the steering wheel of my 2000 C4. It seems to be coming from the near side front wheel. The couple of times I have felt it now, the lock was full on turning to the right but I haven't noticed it with full opposite lock. It also occurs when reversing with full right hand lock.

Anyone any thoughts - the car will be with Mid Sussex OPC on the 14 of this month for a service but it would be good to have a clue what might be the cause befor then.

Mine does the same, only tend to notice as I reverse off my drive.
Agree with Mark for the reason..

I feel better now... mine's doing the same!

I only really notice it when backing off the drive on full lock and only when the weather's really cold.

Mine also does this - question for Mark Bennett - are you saying the tyres are fouling the bodywork? Surely the car is designed so this doesnt happen?

No, the tyres are scrubbing.
On a tight lock, the circles that the tyres are trying to describe on the ground are not the same - therefore one or other tyre will have to give up and "hop" over now and again as the sidewall reaches the maximum it will flex for the grip it has. They either do that or tear the car apart [;)]

I found the same. Had PCT do a 4 wheel alignment to try and solve it. I also find the cold weather makes it worse. Dont understand why though!

No idea why the weather would make a difference, its a mechanical thing... I think its the camber angle that causes it [8|]

yep, mine's the same, especially if there are stones about, and if you've ever driven a Triumph Herald, under the same conditions, you wouldn't give it a second thought!

Picked up my 996 C4S yesterday from Porsche Bristol( Happy Days!!) The first I noticed when reversing down the drive this morning was the tyre scrubbing, I thought I'd been sold a duff! Thank god I logged on and read this!

Well that's a relief ! Now you all come to mention it I started to notice it over the last few days and it has been cold

Ain't forums the mutts nuts?

Both my previous '99 C4 and latterly my 2002 C2 have done the same and only on full lock. It's entirely down to the wide tyres and front suspension geometry.

Just taken delivery of my business mile muncher - a CLK Merc with AMG wheels and guess what. Same effect on the driveway full lock parking etc.
