Wheel locating pin jammed!!

Hi, while investigating some of the other issues I have submitted posts about in the last day or so I had something of a drama. When I was putting the front wheel back on(having checked rear side of brake disk, not as smooth or rust free as outward side) I used the Alloy locating pin that is part of the Porsche tool kit. Big mistake! When I screwed it in it appeared a little tight(sure I did not cross thread it). Put the wheel on and screwed in other wheel bolts but could not get the Alloy Pin out, stuck! Took all wheel bolts out and wheel off again and after 30 mins or so of carefully trying to undo it without snapping it off, WD40, etc it eventually worked it's way out. Really felt like the thread was not quite the correct match for the wheel bolt hole. All back together now but the wheel bolt for that hole was a little stiff also, I suspect because of residual aluminium on the thread.

Anyone any experience of this? I will not be using it again, I will just struggle on to locate the wheel without it!

To check the thread on the pin take a wheel bolt and press the threads of the two together to see if there is a visible difference in pitch or form.

It's quite easy with a triangular or knife edged Swiss file to clean up any damaged thread on the pin, run it into one of the wheel bolt holes to prove the fit but it is a good idea to use a little copper grease on these threads to prevent any corrosion. It is as you say possible to have deposited some alloy into the threads of the hole but given a couple of runs in and out they will wear off provided the bolt doesn't jam. If you have a spare bolt to clean the thread cut a lengthwise groove along the thread to use to clean out any debris in the thread of the hole.

Many thanks Buddy, most helpful... also liked the idea from Nick_USA to have two of the wheel alignment pins.
