Wheel locking nuts !!

Hi All

I have slight embarrassing omission to make. I brought my SC over from Germany last year in November. About a month ago I noticed that each wheel had 1 locking wheel nut. I don't have the key, I did speak to the previous owner and its not where he normally kept it which is in the glove compartment! They require a small key e.g. padlock key size. Does anyone have any ideas how to get them off, I don't want to have the wheels cut off unless I really have to ?

Hd a similar problem on a Ford once. Ijust got a local mechanic to remove them and replace with wheel nuts. Ring round a few Porsche Independents they shouls help you out.

If they are standard Porsche wheel locks then your local dealer shouls be able to help, there are not many combinations. Also I found that mine would come off with a swift pull with a pair of channel lock pliers [;)]

I managed to dremel mine off, took a couple of minutes, then I got a set with the special socket, so not be caught foul of the locks again. As they spin so much the grease gets pushed out - apparently!

It does sound like a job for a locksmith, last one I had like this cost about £60 plus the dreaded VAT.

By strange coincidence just had to get a set off one of our Volvos yesterday. 'Key' lost by bodyshop last year, now selling car and promised to replace discs and pads all round. I used the sacrificial socket technique - i.e. find socket that is just too small, affix to locking nut using very large hammer, then slowly wind off with ratchet. Works every time, though if you have one of those where the outside swivels, then clean it out with spray carb cleaner (wipe it off the wheels) and then fill it full of superglue (keep that off the wheels full stop). Has never failed me buit there is always a first!
