anyone know the cheapest place i can get a wheel nut from - OPC want £5.60 plus vat which i thought was a bit steep

Might sound like a daft question but why did they use alloy wheelnuts in the first place?
I've got a few to change which are starting to disintegrate - they're the worst wheelnuts i've had on a car.

...

I assume it is all down to weight. Unsprung weight is the worst kind to have on a car, and rotating unsprung weight even more so.

Compare a bag of alloy wheel nuts and a bag of steel wheel nuts and I think you will be quite surprised how much heavier the steel ones are.

You are right that the nuts don't seem to last that long and should perhaps be considered a consumable - I bought a bag of replacements from Jasmine at the last national for £30.

Bert Gear £1.99 inc p&p. They last better if you use the correct size socket and the correct torque...[:D]
