Wheel referb

Hi all,

Wanted to ask you Guys 'n' Girls if anyone knew of a place to get a set of 3.6 turbo split rims refurbished.
Wanted to get this done for my brother as an Xmas present but not proving so easy now I've started looking.

Live in Orpington - prepared to travel some but need a reasonable price and duration.
Brother's been quoted £100 + vat per corner and a 5 day wait from one place.

Any advise...?

Many thanks in advance

Andrew

Andrew,

Be VERY careful about refurbishing the split rim Speedlines. £100 per corner sounds VERY cheap to me given that the recommendation is to replace the bolts. There is a place in Germany who will do it and I believe Jasmine have some contact with them. I know our R10 R/O, Mike Pink, had some done recently and he also had some trouble identifying who could and who couldn't do it. Perhaps Mike might offer some assistance.

Regards

Dave

Adrian a 964RS owner does refurbishment of 3 piece Speedlines including replacing the original "Speedline for Porsche" etching.
He has many satisfied club members whom he has done work for and is easily the least expensive.
Give him a call on 07831 572087.

Hope this helps.

John

I am not far from Orpington, having looked into refurbing speedlines, I would be suprised if anyone could do it properly for £100.

I asked around and nobody wanted to take on the liability of rebuilding these wheels at a sensible price,,, problems being rebuild time and correct sealing....so I ended up doing it myself....with a local wheel refurbisher preparing the individual parts.

I have seen Adrians handywork mentioned above on Johns car, he does an excellent job at a good price.

There used to be a place at East or West Peckham near the Hop Farm
Beltring. Dont know if it is still there . It was on the old road .If you go down 7 mile lane and get on to the old road at the start of the dual carriageway it is on the right hand side in the direction of Paddock Wood.

The place you are talking about moved at least 10 years ago. They moved to Tonbridge and are call SPIT & POLISH. They are rubbish and I wouldn't get them to refurbish the wheel on my wheelbarrow!

For those of you that are dyslexic they are CARP!

DIAMOND styling at Otford (Just outside SEVENOAKS) are a much better bet. They recently refurbished a set of BBS wheels off Tim Chandlers GT3 RS and they looked like new.

Spot on Gary...Spit and Polish are crap and extremely arrogant with it.

Gareth at diamond styling is the man...but not cheap.

A little harsh chaps.....agreed Diamond styling are far and away the best....with a price to match!

I needed a wheel refinished quickly as I had a track day booked,,,,,,I called round, lepson, DS, some place in orpington......the only place who could get it done in time was S & P.......in fact it was a day early,,,,the job was fine and they were the cheapest......on the basis of that I would use them again.

Just shows the internet doesn't just have to be used for slagging companies off [;)]

Spit & Polish came recommended to me by another 911 owner. I took my wife's sratched Ford alloy there (I dropped the car on it....don't ask...) and it came back as good as new for £50.

My Fuchs will be going to them for a refurb in the new year.

Many thanks for all your feedback folks.
A few new avenues to follow.
We used S&P for a referb on lexus wheels and were V happy with the result - however they were not so eager to have a stab at the split rims.
Will let you know how I get on and hopefully get some pics uploaded of the fiinished items.

Enjoy the festive season & drive safe.

I'm sorry paul if you thinks that's harsh but that's not to say we don't use them in my line of business....we do. However on a personal preference I wouldn't touch them, they've done work for me with a like it or lump it attitude and while some would be happy with the service/results they give I'm not.

When Spit & Polish were based at East Peckham the work was to a decent standard and they did offer some service on the odd occassion when things went wrong. However once they moved to Tonbridge the standard of workmanship went down and the service backup hit rock bottom. Not only my experience but also heard a lot of complaints about them from others. Maybe things have improved but once bitten twice shy.

When Timmo went to Diamond Styling recently I went along with him and their whole attitude was very positive. They were keen to make sure that Timmo was happy with the finished result. I saw the BBS split rim wheels off his GT3 RS and they looked as good as new (possibly better than new).

Good to read that paul ,after that bloke gary's post i thought i had comitted a crime
trying to remember who they were .Can't wait to meet him and kick his tyres, bet his wheels are painted white anyway.
