Wheel refurb - South East

Hi,
Not posted for a while, but thought I would ask you all for some help with a wheel refurb query. Need to get the design 90s on my S2 refurbed and wondered if anyone had any great recommendations for the South East of England. I am prepared to travel, but would prefer somewhere local if possible. Also, potentially a stupid question, but what is the factory standard finish to these wheels. Is it simply "alloy wheel" colour - want to make sure i ask for the right thing to get them looking as they did when they came out of the showroom if possible?

Thanks in advance

I have tried Lepsons in Gillingham and Spit and Polish in Tonbridge. A set of cookies and a set of Fuchs both had areas of milking of the laquer within the year when Lepsons did them + they were not interested in any remedy when I complained. The standard alloys from my 944 turbo fared better at Spit and Polish, originally they were anodysed but to reproduce this would have been too expensive. Really close up the surface is not perfect but for 50 squid a wheel they look very nice and after 9 months there has been no deterioration. I too fretted about the finish but Spit and Polish knew what to do without me having to specify.

Don't know where you are in London, but John Barnatt of Thames Valley regionused a company near me for his Turbo Cab. I'm sure a PM to him would give you the details.

They were in Latimer, IIRC, which is just off JCN 18 of the M25 so 20 mins from either Heathrow or the M1 directions.

I'm going to re-furb my own wheels. I've done a test run on the centre caps to see how they hold up for a year or so, then the rest of the wheels will get the same treatment. The colour is quite close, just slightly darker than the original silver.

1. Strip corrosion off wheels with wire brush on grinder/ drill.
2. Polish (if needed) with machine mop and compound.
3. etch prime
4. Zinc spray
5 clear coat.

The centre caps came out pretty good!

Try Wicked Wheels in Crawley, they will do a full refurb especially as the wheels maybe getting on a bit mine are going in in two weeks, the cost is £260 for all four, i'll let you know how I get on.
