Here' s a copy of an excerpt from an interesting post in the tyre survey

ORIGINAL: Derek Brien

Have very recently had my drop forged alloys refurbished and took the opportunity to fit new tyres at the same time.

Do you mean re-anodised, if so, how much and where.

No, didn' t get them re-anodised.
Got all four wheels stripped and powder-coated for £100 all in!!! Undoubtedly not as good a finish as re-anodising, but a marked improvement on their previous condition. [:D]
Will try to get a digital image of them and upload it over the weekend.

Derek,

Can you post the pics in this thread? I' d be really interested to see them as that seems a very good price. The cheapest I have seen recently was £30 a wheel and did not include full stripping - just a blowover with paint.

Now you' ve got me worried! I was told that they would be stripped and then powder-coated, but if the price was that good - hmmmmm. [:-]
Will clean the brakedust from wednesday nights Knockhill bash, off, and get a pic on this thread, probably tomorrow evening.
Will be interested to hear what you think of the result. [8|]

Well, as promised, here' s a pic of my recently refurbished drop forged alloys. The previous owner was clearly not overly accurate when it came to reverse parking, as the rims were chewed to hell, when I first bought the car. ( [] ) They had clearly been refurbished at some point in the past, as there is still evidence of ball burnishing on the inside of the rims. Not too unsightly though!
Let me know what you think!

From the picture I would say that looks very good.

The trouble is I am guessing you had them done in Edinburgh which is rather far for me [:(]

Did that price include removing and refitting the tyres or did you supply then with just the wheels. Finally, how long did the whole process take (was wondering if I could combine it with a trip to the relatives and one of the Knockhill evenings [:D])

I have used a guy in Leicester called Paint Perfection. He did a stunning job. I can get his details for you if you???

Paid £40 per wheel (but had to get the tyres taken off). He stripped them, repaired them, painted them and lacquered them.

Regards

Phil

As I mentioned, on the original tyre survey, I took the opportunity to fit new tyres at the same time as my wheels came back, so can' t comment on whether or not you would be charged more for refitting the same tyres.
The wheels were handed into them on a tuesday, following a bank holiday monday closure, and were available for collection on the thursday. £25 per wheel. [:D]

They're the drop forged ones, I think the original factory finish is anodised which not every refurbisher can do. I think some people have had them painted though.

I'm sure somebody will have had these done at some point and will correct me if i'm wrong.

Mike,

By some recommendations, the best in the country are Pristine Alloy Wheel Refurbishers in Woburn Sands. Telephone number is 01908 282628. I've used them a couple of times and they are very good. Most cost effective if you have all four done (takes about 3 days) and they give you the speil about singles not necessarily matching the others. They take the tyres off and do the whole wheel and will repair where possible. Highly recommended.

Regards

Dave
