wheel refurbs

A year ago I had a guy come round to my house to refurb my wheels. I chose this service because it was cheaper, about £30 a wheel. I was a bit suprised to find that the wheels came out with a matt finish instead of the highly polished finish that they had originaly. The chap explained that to achieve that kind of finish I would have to go to an OPC as his truck didn't have that level of equipment. It would have been nice if he had told me that before he started, but no matter as the most important thing to me at the time was to get rid of the corrosion, which he in fact did.
Well, guess what, one year later and the corrosion is reappearing. So, the end to this tale is this. If you want your wheels refurb'd and you want them to look like new, and you want them to last at least 4 years before they need doing again, then pay the money and get them done at your OPC.

My OPC 'refurbed' my alloys but wheel cleaner took of the new dull top paint layer. OPC body shop quoted ££'s to send them off for a proper refurb - local Ferrari body shop said they were bodged and needed painting / curing to do the job properly (beware air cooled paints). I've seen refurbed wheels from Jasmin on concours cars & they look great.

I've just received a set of refurbed split rim Targa wheels from Jasmine ( one of the few places licenced to do split rims ) they look like new. Not cheap £170/wheel but well worth the cost compared to new wheels as i wanted to keep the car as original
