Wheel replacement for 2.7

If you want to go with 16" wheels D90s (from an S2) are a popular & cheap choice, but suitable 16" tyres are becoming less abundant. If you go for 17" wheels (from a Boxter or 996 for cheap ones, 968 or 964 for expensive (but worth it) ones) you should really have the front castor mounts (the rear mount for the lower front wishbones) upgraded to 968 spec at a cost of around £100 iirc.
Your standard wheels are 52.3mm offset so ideally you would get some wjeels that have the same or numerically larger offset, then use spacers or shims to get the offset back to 52.3mm or thereabouts.
For example if you buy wheels with a 55mm offset they'll fit okay, 60mm offset & they'll sit further inboard (by 7.7mm) so a 7mm spacer could be fitted to get it back to normal.
Find out the offset of the wheels you want to fit and go from there.
