Wheel rumble

For the past couple of weeks I've noticed a rumbling sound from the front axle of my '97 Boxster tip. The sound gets louder the faster I drive, and worsens dramatically when taking bends at speed (for example on the motorway).
If it's relevent,I recently replaced my front pads and disks, but the sound began a few weeks before I replaced them, but has since gotten worse. I am not experiencing any judder under braking, or at the steering wheel at any speeds.
I've had all my wheel bolts torqued properly.......I'm thinking maybe it's a wheel bearing?

Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Rod

Thanks a lot Mark,

Just found the parts on www.Eurocarparts.com for £18.85......any idea how to do the job...or is it strictly one for the experts?

I don't know about Porsche's, but wheel bearings are supposed to be easy.
They are an item that is semi-consumable, in that they need replacing on everything eventually.
It should be quite easy and manauls normally make it sound easy.

However, they can be a complete b'stard to get out. They are normally a tight/interference fit, so some persuasion (i.e. hammer) may be needed to get the old ones out. Especially once they have been on the car for thousands of miles/years and things have correded a bit and got really grubby.

If you have done it before, it should be possible. If you have not done this type of thing before, either get someone to help who knows what they are doing, or get an independent to do it for you.
Personally this is not one of the items I would be worried about not having an OPC do, like changing tyres or brake pads, anyone who is half competent can do it.

Thanks Stuart,

I think you're right. I tried looking up the procedure on the net and found 968 and 914s being done....not simple to get the bearings in and out, very easy to damage the bearing in the process...I'll order the parts and let an independant do it, can't be more than 1 hours labour.

Thanks for all your help Mark and Stuart
