Hi, this is a question for 944 track specialists. I have discovered an apparent modification on my S2, along with a half cage and other track oriented mods. It has 8J front wheels rather than the 7J as standard (still has 8J rears). Is this a recognised and worthwhile track mod or should I revert to the 7J size, bearing in mind the main use of the car is as a track day toy?

Seems pretty much the norm to me to run 8j rims all round on an S2 with either 225's all round or 245's.

They still have a tendency to understeer a tad on corner exit but with 8j rims and big spacers all round (19 mm on my race car) the car has so much more grip on turn in that its like driving a different car. Actually the race car reminds me more of my old mini than my S2 in road going trim.
On a road car though or something with stock or near stock suspension I personally though would keep it all stock.

Thanks Guys. Really helpful comments, as usual. Now I know it is accepted practise, I will stick with it as the car is intended for track use. So, sorry Chris, the half cage is staying! Gave the car it's first run out today on its new Koni Sport suspension and Toyo tyres. It feels superb. Will be getting a geo check this week.

Seems like the previous owner knew what he was doing - that is a very recognised tweak for 944 track/race cars. Sounds like you have a good one [
