Wheel sizes - 964 turbo

I am considering buying a spare set of wheels for my 964 3.6 turbo, mainly to wear in winter so as to preserve (as best I can [8|]) the polished 18" Speedline split-rims. Looking at some wheel makes, I can probably source the 18" x 8" fronts with appropriate offset (ET 52) without too much trouble in a number of wheel variants, but much harder to find sets that have 18" x 10" rears with an offset close to the standard ET61.

One make appears to offer either 9.5" or 11" as a rear option. Anyone know what ET and tyre combination will work for my car in either of these sizes ("" I could live with some small shims to adjust but these wheels are probably an aggregate 8kg (17%) heavier than the Speedlines and I reluctant to add even more weight with full spacers, etc)? It is standard factory ride-height at present, but I might shortly be lowering it 15-20mm with a suspension upgrade (when I get time to take it in).

Alternatively, does anyone have a spare set of original 18" Speedlines lying around that they don't want [:)] "" don't have to be immaculate, but would need to be "true" (ie not buckled, dented, etc)? (Note: I live near Milton Keynes, so not too interested in buying wheels that are going to cost me a fortune in courier charges to collect.)

This might help you Mike..........
If not it is a handy site to keep none the less [:)]

Mike,

The official "Winter" fitment for the 3.6 Turbo were 17" Cup 1s (7J/ET55 for the front, 8J/ET52 for the rear). If you get another set of Speedlines you'll only get paranoid about keeping them nice as well!! A set of Cup 1s (if you can find any) can more easily be refurb'ed if necessary.

Just a thought!!!

Regards

Dave

I bet if you fit 17" cup1's you'll love the more road-compliant feel too!
(and I think they are lighter than Speedos...)

im happy with my copys from pete, although they corrode like the splits but a bargain for £850 now.

I have just removed speedline splits from my 964 turbo, I was fed up with having to refurb them so often, i had 18" 52 offset on the front and 18" 61 offsets on the back, they were the perfect fit,
i tried 18" 40 offset rears from my 993 turbo, but the wheels stuck out 1" (25mm),

My new wheels have an offset of 65 on the backs, and they fit like a glove

The larget size width you can use on the rears is 10" because of the trailing arms, i have been informed that 19" wheels cannot be used either, but dont quote me, but i did do an extensive search
check the sites below, they give wheel part numbers and offsets

... i had 18" 52 offset on the front and 18" 65 offsets on the back, they were the perfect fit ...

These are typical 993 and 996 narrow body wheel offsets for 8" fronts and 10" rears so 993/996 wheels would be a good source.

I was in similar position a couple months ago.Almost bought the Veloce - Andrew Sweetenham was cheapest - but i managed to get a set of 996 C4 2000 51/62 - with tyres for cheaper. No worries now and yes the ride is better on the street, though that could be partly due to tyre difference.
