Wheel sizes - again!

I know this has been done loads before but I can't seem to find the thread.

I've been offered a brand new set of BBS split rims that were originally ordered for a 964 turbo-look cab but were never used. They are 18 inch, 8.5 and 10. I don't know what the offsets are though. I think from what I remember on the other thread that I will need narrower tyres because the ones on the rims at the moment are 235 front and 265 rear. Does anybody know if these will fit my car or do you need to know the offsets first? Also, what spacers would I need if any?

Thanks in advance for your help

Martin

A brand new set of BBS wheels you say? They definitely wont fit your car. But if you give me the contact details of the seller I will check what the offsets are and whether they'll fit mine. [:D] Most likely they'll be ET50 front and rear. You can still buy them brand new from a UK source. But they're not cheap. Last time I checked a set a BBS LMs was £3150 + vat. BBS E88s were iro £1050 each. Not sure which wheel thread you were searching for, but here's a couple I started: [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=484680&mpage=1&key=wheel&#484680]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=484680&mpage=1&key=wheel&#484680[/link] [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=494143&mpage=1&key=wheel&#494143]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=494143&mpage=1&key=wheel&#494143[/link]

235s on the front are too wide and will catch the front inner wheel arches towards full lock, the rears are fine. Damen

Thanks for that Damen. It confirms what I was thinking. Rich, I would let you have them for a fiver each but I'm not sure they'll look right on a white car! [;)]

All depends on Offset - 235 will work (have done it) and only rub slightly on the plastic liners - but as I say offset is ever thing. Tony

I have Toyo R888 235 front and 265 rear on a set of 18" BBS E28 mags --- 8j front and 9.5j rear. They used to have similar sized SO2's on them and they did just catch on full lock --- but on another car. I haven't yet tried this combination on the N-GT -- and have a pair of 7mm shims, 16mm, 18mm and 21mm spacers. How much do you think I will need to play to make them work ? I can find no insets (offsets) for the E28's, but these were specified new from Jasmine for a 964RS with no spacers. So, another wheel question [;)]

Not about tyres or offsets but wheel finishes... Can the BBS E28 / E88 owners here tell me if the outer rims are clear-coated or not as standard?

No clear coat - they corrode very quickly (ask me how I know !!!!). They are a complete menace to keep clean. The rims are very soft ali and get pitted through brake dust erosion. They do look nice when they're shiny though ! Jamie

thanks Jamie!, what cleaning products did you use to remove the pitting and dust build up (as my set are bad[&o]) and what do you use to keep them that way?

I used Autosol metal polish and a Dremel, then a couple of coats of Blitz wax on top (don't have any wheel-specific wax). Certainly improved things, but still not brilliant. Eventually I will have the rims professionally refurbed and anodised to sort the problem once and for all. Otherwise they are languishing in my garage still carrying the dirt and dust of my last trackday months and months ago, which won't have done them any good at all ! Looks like giving them a spruce up could be a good Easter job ...... Jamie
